Step Into My Week

Patting myself on the back because this past week was the most productive one I’ve had in a while. When my roommate and I sat down to re-do our fridge calendar (yep, we’re the type that likes to see each other’s schedule this way), I realized just how busy spring and summer are going to be. That kicked me into gear of trying to majorly get ahead on some things so that I’d be able to enjoy the business without slacking when it comes to blogging and other areas. With blog post content ideas mapped out until mid-May and drafts for many for those posts in the works, I am feeling motivated! Aside from that, my week was relatively normal.

I know I’ve mentioned this before, but Monday’s are typically my most productive days of the week. Like I mentioned in Friday’s post, I like to make a to-do list at the end of the previous week with tasks to tackle which certainly helps to keep me on task. Then when I come in on Monday morning, I feel like I have lots I can get started on instead of waiting around for everyone else in the office to arrive and start sending emails. I worked ahead on some content management assignments I had, shot off emails that needed to be sent, and worked through resources, comments, and interviews. It felt like 5:00 arrived in no time. After work, I went to the Y to workout. When I was at the ER, I failed to ask if it was ok to workout, so I took it very easy even though I was feeling infinitely better. I walked (and then slowly jogged) on the treadmill and did a nice long stretch before heading home. I didn’t cook the Sunday before so I did all my meal prepping for the week that evening which was a great reminder of how nice it is to get that done on the weekend instead of a weeknight. My roommate had just gotten back from Napa (I’m still so jealous), so I got to hear all about her trip while we ate dinner. We watched the second episode of the Madeleine McCann documentary on Netflix before calling it a night.

Tuesday was similar in that I was super productive and able to work ahead since we are currently between issues. I tackled the last thing on my to-do list for the day right as 5:00 came around and headed out of the office. I went to the Y afterward and ran a couple of miles before doing some arm and ab exercises. Since I ran my half marathon, I feel a little lost when it comes to what to do at the gym and am going to work in the coming weeks to make a more concrete schedule to stick to since I really loved the structure of having a training plan. After working out I went home, showered, and made dinner before working on an itinerary for my friend Sophia’s bachelorette this coming weekend. I am so excited to share more details about that with y’all soon, but for now, I have to keep some things secret!

Wednesday morning was filled with a bunch of writing before running an errand out of the office and jumping back into the zone once I returned. That afternoon I went with our stylist to set up for a shoot the following day. I love seeing the behind the scenes of what it takes to make a shoot come together and getting to help with the process is always so much fun for me. We got back to the office, and I was able to get to a few emails before it was time to go. After leaving work, I headed home to change before going on a run to dinner with my friend Macy. This may sound familiar to last Thursday, but fortunately this week I didn’t end up with intense stomach pain and actually got to eat dinner out. We ran through Crestline and stopped at Saw’s on our way back to my house. If you’ve never been to Birmingham, Saw’s is a delicious barbecue restaurant that has the best Alabama White BBQ sauce and sides. Since the weather was nice, we were able to eat outside which has me excited for more walks (or runs) there this spring and summer! Once we were back, I cleaned up and got in bed.

Thursday was eventful since I spent the majority of the day at a photo shoot. The house we were in had the best natural light, and the products used paired perfectly with the décor. Photoshoot days are always so fun even with the unpacking and repacking that inevitably comes with the process. Once we got back to the office, we put everything where it needed to go so that we wouldn’t have to worry about that on Friday. I was exhausted by the time I left the office and went home to shower and relax before heading to hang out with Nell for a bit before bible study. After bible study, I got in bed and read before falling asleep.

When I woke up on Friday morning, it was drizzly out, and all I wanted to do was stay in bed. I got myself ready and headed to Starbucks for my Friday morning tradition. I was able to get through some emails and blog work before heading into the office. I was able to get a lot done while I was there which felt great. Afterward, I ran to pick something up at a local store before heading home to eat lunch and relax before meeting a friend for a workout class at True40. The class was at 4:30 and afterward I headed home to get cleaned up to go to Macy’s to cook dinner. We made fish tacos and margaritas and ended up sitting on her porch chatting with friends for hours before I finally went home.

Saturday was eventful and was spent enjoying the weather. I spent the morning working on upcoming blog posts, showering, and eventually making myself lunch. My roommate and I got ready and went to Avondale Brewing for a charity event and live music for the better part of the afternoon. I had not yet been there but will definitely be going back. Our friends met us there before heading to Avondale Common House for an early dinner and to catch the beginning of the Auburn Virginia final-four game. Around half time we went to Back Forty, another brewery, to watch the second half. The place was PACKED with mainly Auburn fans which made the result of the game sting a bit more. We didn’t end up staying to watch the next game since it started to rain and instead my roommate and I put on our pajamas and camped out on the couch watching the second Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants on Netflix before going to bed.

On Sunday morning I got up and went to Trader Joe’s to get my grocery shopping over with for the week. I came home and put everything away before meeting my roommate for church. After church, I came home and ate a quick lunch before going on a short run and then a long five-mile walk with a friend. By the time we finished, I figured I should finish my errands for the weekend and start meal-prepping and accomplishing a few things to feel ready for this week. I talked on the phone with Nell (who was out of town this weekend) and my parents and cooked two meals to have to eat this week. The rest of my night was spent putting laundry away and finishing some upcoming posts before I read and fell asleep.

Lately

It has been a few weeks since I included this portion in a Step Into My Week post so I’m especially excited to bring it back today.

Wanting: This Dress
Can someone invite me to be a guest at a summer wedding so that I have an excuse to own this? If I were going to prom this year (clearly I’m a little old for that) this is the dress I’d wear. Speaking of prom, hopefully, I’m not too late to share prom dress picks since those are coming to the blog this week.

Wearing: See for yourself on the Liketoknow. It App
Shameless self-plug? Yep. I’m excited to be back with sharing my outfits in Step Into My Week posts, but I’ll also be sharing these and other exclusive content on the Liketoknow. It app. So, if you’re ever curious about where something may be from be sure to check there first.

Watching: Selling Sunset on Netflix
I blame my roommate for this entirely. She told me about the show, and we both were hooked. It’s entirely trash TV and is more about the office drama these real estate agents have with one another as opposed to a look at the houses they are selling, but it would be a good way to kill time on a rainy weekend.

I kind of hate that I’m sharing this when it’s not yet available for purchase, but I’ve been loving the book so much that I needed to share it and encourage you to pre-order it. At work we are sent a lot of advance copies of books from publishers, and this one came across my desk recently and I felt the need to keep it (usually I take these books to our breakroom freebie table since they aren’t applicable to our magazine and I’m not usually interested in keeping them for myself). I have been waking up earlier just so that I have more time in the morning to read it and feel like anyone looking for reassurance in what they are going through whether that be their career, transitioning from college to the real world, and more should have this on their to-read list.

It feels kind of silly to have my Five Minute Journal as what I’m loving lately since it has been something I’ve loved for over a year now. The real reason I’m including it is because I am loving looking back at what I was writing in it last year and comparing it to where I am now. Maybe I should say I’m loving growth then, but it’s nice to have this journal as a reminder of how much has changed in the past year!
