First of Fall Flannel

I tend to be the epitome of a rule follower. Abiding by any guideline to a T In some ways this is a blessing and in other ways it can keep me a bit to stuck in my comfort zone. Whether in school or in fashion I typically don't stray from the status quo. The saddest part about leaving summer to me is the fact that that typically means white bottoms are stored away until late April or May when it's "acceptable" to wear them again. After seeing so many cute outfits on other blogs and pinterest incorporating white bottoms I decided to give it a go myself. When bending the rules it's best to make sure you're not doing any harm to yourself and others and wearing a white skirt definitely isn't harmful.

In order to ensure that I didn't look like I had forgotten to flip my calendar a few months I opted to try this out with a dark fall flannel in order to create a bit of balance. With some brown accessories my first attempt at white after labor day didn't catch me as off guard as I would've suspected. Wearing this to chapter and to student teach and receiving numerous compliments had me scoffing at how silly this rule may be. Flannels are one of my favorite pieces to reach for in the fall and winter due to their versatility and it's nice to know that these don't have to remain exclusive to outfits of vests, jeans, and boots and can look equally as put together with fun flared skirts. Over fall break, my mom and I were in J.Crew and as we left she said something along the lines of "the lumberjack trend is back" when commenting on the number of plaid flannels lining the store windows. I don't think I could make it through a fall or winter without wearing button down flannel shirts so I'm hoping that this "lumberjack trend" never goes away.

Fall Morning Playlist

With colder mornings spent finally drinking coffee that isn't iced and increased motivation to get things done I've found myself looking for new music to listen to. While I definitely have a very varied taste in music when I began to put together a fall morning playlist a couple of weeks ago I found that many of the songs were very similar. The last time I shared a playlist with y'all it got a really great response so I thought it would be fun to share my fall morning playlist as well. I am constantly looking for new playlists and figured some of you may be in that same boat and this post would prove to be useful.

If y'all know of any great playlists either you've made or discovered feel free to let me know below as I am always on the hunt for something new.

Ruffles, Bows, and Leopard

I'm not sure I've ever come across a shirt that is more me or be more versatile season to season. An immediate "add to cart" if you ask me. With a drop waist ruffle peplum hem, bows to tie the sleeves, and small cut out on the back I'm obsessed. The peplum hem makes it fun to pair with a more fitted skirt while looking equally as cute with jeans.

The first few times I've worn this top I've certainly taken the more casual route. My favorite pair of jeans and great leopard slip ons make the outfit look a little more intentional. I wore this to class in mid October and was comfortable all day long but more recently I wore this when exploring a new area. A week or so ago Nell and I went to a well known Greenville landmark, the Campbell's Covered Bridge. While the fall foliage wasn't completely transitioning the bright red bridge certainly opted against the green background of the trees. It looked like something straight off of a Christmas card and I'm already eager to go back. It was a bit overcast the day we went which had me envisioning what this area must look like with a fresh snow. For now, I am appreciating it in all its fall glory and was so eager to find a new outfit photo location to share with y'all!

Fall Wardrobe Staples

This morning the weather felt borderline winter as opposed to fall but by the end of the day it'll heat back up and that won't be the case. As much as I adore fall sometimes dressing for the early part of it can be a challenge since there can be a drastic change in degrees of temperature throughout the day. There are specific pieces in my wardrobe, particularly during fall, that I absolutely could not imagine not having to reach for in the morning while getting dressed. This may just be due to my love of school uniforms (and embarrassment of missing them sometimes in college) but it is so nice to have pieces that you can rely on to always look put together in an outfit with minimal effort. With that in mind I thought it could be so fun to share some of my fall wardrobe staples with y'all. These are all pieces that are reached for frequently from my closet and are great basics to have to work with when creating outfits. Whether you're looking to do a bit of online shopping for cute fall pieces or trying to establish more of a wardrobe based on timeless pieces that are easy to mix and match these work for both and are no fail items to throw on during these crisp fall months. While you can certainly find variations in all of these pieces the items I've included in this image are specific items I own that are currently available!

What would you add to this list?

Ruffle Hem Piko, Grey Slip Ons, Green Bag

Happy Saturday! I thought it would be fun to share a look at some casual weekend wear with y'all as I accidentally took a two week hiatus to start the month and have so many post ideas I am excited to share. Since during the day it can still be a bit warm I have been relying on short sleeved shirts with jeans to look the part for the season without sweating. The same goes for shoes, it's just now getting to the point when wearing boots all day is comfortable but up until now I've been relying on casual slip on shoes to dress for the season more than sandals. Paired with a fun colored cross body bag this outfit is quick to throw on and easy to repeat without anyone necessarily knowing.

This white shirt has quickly become a favorite and I have since purchased it in grey as well. It's great to throw on with jean shorts as well and also looks great with a sweater. The best part is it's only $25 and from the brand Piko which makes the softest shirts in a variety of styles. The best brand for basics!

Step Into My Week

Hooray for Friday! This week was a restful one towards the beginning and kicked into high gear towards the end at least for me anyway! Furman gave us Monday and Tuesday off for fall break and I took advantage of that by heading home on Friday morning. In my head I always think I want to do something really fun and exciting for fall break but by the time it comes around I am always super content with the idea of heading home especially since midterms are typically the week before. Nell and I drove home together and it was nice to have someone to entertain me on the eight hour drive.

For the most part I took it easy over the break but was able to see a number of friends while I was home. 3 of my really close friends (who all happen to be sisters) were all home Friday night so after enjoying dinner at home with my parents I headed to their house where we had a bonfire on the beach as we caught each other up on life. It was so peaceful and such a treat to get to see all of them at once since with our busy schedules that can be a rarity.

Saturday my dad went to do a bike ride with his triathlon friends so my mom and I went shopping and out to lunch with my grandparents before coming back to watch the Alabama game. I took a solid 2 hour nap that afternoon which even I was impressed with since I slept in until about 9:30 that morning. It's funny how quickly my body can adjust to being home since at school I struggle to ever sleep past 8. Sunday was another relaxing day and I went out to brunch with my parents before going to one of my favorite coffee shops to get some work done. There I met another one of my friends and we caught up with each other for a bit before she had to head back to Birmingham. The rest of the break involved errands and a bit more school work in a far from stressful environment which is always refreshing.

Tuesday Nell and I headed back to school and decided to cook ourselves dinner in the apartment. I love having a kitchen and wish I had more time to really be creative with meals. Then, we baked cookies as an apartment and watched Hocus Pocus together to prolong fall break as best we could. Wednesday was another regular school day and our sorority had an intramural soccer game that night. I've loved getting back into soccer by playing intramurals and even scored a hat trick (3 goals) during that game. Since it was the semi finals we had the finals last night which we won and I was able to score another goal during. Last night as I was working on homework I experienced what every college student dreads...an assignment you've completed deleting on you. I've always heard horror stories about this and can now say I've experienced it first hand since suddenly my saved 6 page assignment came up as 2 bullet points. Fortunately I was able to knock it out a bit faster the second time around and it has since been turned in but now I feel like I can finally understand what people are talking about when they say that an assignment deletes on them.

Tonight my sorority has a function which should be fun and the plans for the rest of the weekend are still a bit up in the air until Sunday. I am so excited about hosting my first meet up per se on Sunday in Greenville with Southern Tide so if you're local I would love to meet you from 1-3 at their store downtown to sip, shop, and socialize together! And...they've just informed me that if you spend $50 during the event you get a free Southern Tide t-shirt so that's pretty exciting! I can't wait to recap this event with you in next week's Step Into My Week but hope y'all have a wonderful weekend in the meantime!

Hunter Green Hues

While blue remains one of my favorite colors for just about everything (clothes, decor, etc) there is something about a hunter green hue in the fall that has the ability to constantly lure me in. I purchased this skirt last year from Forever 21 of all places and have found it to make an outfit on more occasion than one. Hunter green is like royal blue in that it looks good on just about everyone.

Paired with a cropped tank for now and a baggy white turtleneck sweater in the winter this skirt has certainly given me some bang for my buck. In the fall I am all about cognac colored accessories and typically reach for my riding boots to compliment this outfit but after finding the cutest nude lace up flats last fall I couldn't resist. As I've been student teaching more and more I have tried to resist falling into a routine of capris, cardigans, and ballet flats and these flats definitely make me seem a bit less teacher. Paired with my favorite everyday accessories this would the perfect look for a Thanksgiving meal or nicer dinner out with friends.

Fall Bucket List

When writing down numerous different blog posts I want to write and get up for y'all this one kept getting moved to the top of my list. Last year I created a fall bucket list and it is still heavily trafficked and pinned so I though why not give it an update. Although fall is definitely in full force sometimes a a bit of encouragement as you're already into a season is just what it takes for you to appreciate a season more!

You can bet that this will be printed and put on our fridge to encourage my roommates and I to enjoy all that fall has to offer especially in Greenville! It's a lot more fun to accomplish these things with friends instead of solo so be sure to get an accountability buddy to help you through this list!

The adorable illustrations in this graphic are drawn by Evelyn Henson. If you haven't seen all of her prints and site then you must check them out!

I couldn't help but include that last one on the list. I am doing everything in my power to avoid getting sick. I've gotten my flu shot, take Emergen-c on a regular basis, and am attempting to get enough sleep so let's hope that's enough to combat it! I'd love to hear what is on your fall bucket list or which of these tasks you're most eager to check off!

Navy Striped Southern Tide + Sip & Shop with Me!

With Fall in full swing I am waiting for the weather to remain consistent enough to wear sweaters all day without sweating come 3:00. Some days it starts out being 44 degrees in the morning and get up to the 80s before cooling back down at night. Because of that, dresses that are easy to layer have been essential when it comes to dressing comfortable for the day. I have fallen in love with Southern Tide's fall collection and this navy striped t-shirt dress is no different. There is something about throwing on a dress that makes you look so put together without people thinking about the ease of only picking out one article of clothing. I wore this for student teaching the other day and keep it on hand whenever I need to throw something on fast.

Before I resort to solely boots and booties I've been reaching for this pair of Sperry's frequently. The sand color and navy detail make them a great option for the first of fall. The laces come tied in cute little knots which takes me back to my first pair of Sperry's which my grandmother and I tied in this same way. Though I don't typically carry clutches with these type of outfits this cork clutch with navy trim had my eyes twinkling when I first saw it in Southern Tide's Greenville store! I love that it was released in the fall since so frequently I mentally categorize cork as a summer accessory. With silver specs on the neutral brown I refuse to put this away anytime soon!

Since we are speaking of Southern Tide, I have an exciting announcement for y'all! I'll be hosting a light brunch at their store in Greenville, SC this Sunday (10/23) from 1:00 - 3:00. If you're nearby I would LOVE to meet y'all and put a name with a face. I've never done something of this nature and couldn't think of a better venue to host the event at. The Southern Tide team will be providing drinks and some light brunch like food and I don't want to have to eat it all by myself! Here is the official event invite and I'd love to know whether or not you'll be able to stop by to see their new location & fall line!
