The Sassy Coconut

If you know me at all then you probably know that I would prefer to be in a comfy oversized tshirt with my hair in a ponytail than all dressed up! However, when I wear t-shirts I prefer for them to look decent and cute and The Sassy Coconut on Etsy has such a fun monogrammed t-shirt that fits this bill! I have plenty of monogrammed shirts but my excuse is that this one is very different, the monogram is Vinyl. I love the shiny look and the fact that there is no bulge from the thread since there is no thread!

Another fun and unique item that The Sassy Coconut sells is the monogrammed headbands pictured below! I not only love these to use when I need to pull my hair back for sports but they are also great to keep your hair back when brushing your teeth or even sleeping! There are tons of ways to customize these and they adorably come in many different colors!

Another fun product sold at The Sassy Coconut is the iPhone decal. I really like the look of the decals and how they don't completely cover your entire cover but still makes your charger recognizable!

Do you prefer vinyl or thread monogrammed shirts?

Spring Lilly Favorites

As many of you probably know, Lilly Pulitzer released their spring line today! I love looking at all of the new styles and patterns and am excited to share my favorites!

Spring has Sprung

1. The Rylan Dress- I think this would be super cute for Easter and I love the capped sleeve! The fabric looks really interesting and textured, almost like a tweed! I think this style is super flattering!

2. The Sandrine Dress- If I didn't already have a dress for graduation then this would be the one I would want! Not only is the eyelet perfect for my May 19th graduation but such a great material for the summer in general! I love the bottom of this dress and the back is to die for, such a nice surprise!

3. The Mimosa Skirt- While I love the pearl dress I think that I would have more occasions to wear this skirt! I love the design and peachy color on this skirt and it is hard to beat the fun scalloped detail on the bottom!

4. The Tabitha Dress- This definitely seems like a new take on Lilly. The color is really unique but I am loving the lace and the zipper on the back.

Another favorite of mine is the blue Briella dress but for the style and print it looks like something you could find else where for less!

Which items are your favorites?

Fun Fact Friday

As I announced last Friday, I have decided to create a new series on my blog called Fun Fat Friday! I am so excited to begin this and would be more than happy if other people chose to as well! This is a fun and easy way to allow my readers to learn a little bit more about me each week! These fun facts can be about absolutely anything and I think that is what makes them so fun!

So without further adieu let's begin

Fun Fact Friday

I have an intense fear of lizards. I tend to squeal when I see them and refuse to open one of our outside storage containers because I am sure that lots of lizards are in there! I do not know what triggered this fear but you can bet that when I see a lizard I act like Meredith (the step mother to be) in the Lindsey Lohan Parent Trap when she sees a lizard!

If you choose to participate in Fun Fact Friday feel free to use the button above and link your blog address in the down bar and I will add it to the post!

DIY No Crease Hair Tie and Giveaway

I am sure all of you have grown to know and love no crease hair ties (aka emi jays) and I too am very fond of them. However, I think the price tag is a little steep for such a simple product. I have been making my own hair ties for the past two years and I am excited to finally getting around to sharing the process with you!

Many of you have probably seen this tutorial before but I wanted to share how I do this anyway!

I have used both patterned and plain elastic and both turn out equally as cute! The best and cheapest place to find the fold over elastic you need to make these hair ties is etsy! When you go to etsy type "fold over elastic" into the search bar and a plethora of the product will come up!

What you will need:
fold over elastic

What to do:

1) Take your elastic and measure a piece to 9 inches (this can vary depending on your preference but I like this length).

2) Cut elastic, I find it easiest to cut all of it at once and then complete the next steps.

3) Fold the piece of elastic in half  and tie a knot.

4) Now take your lighter and turn it on (I don't know how you would properly say to make a flame appear so we will go with that) and run it across the ends of the tied ends to avoid fraying.

Ta Da you have just created your own No Crease Hair Ties! Super easy and fun and they make amazing gifts for friends!

Want to win your own set of these hair ties made by me?
There will be two different winners!
One will win the pink set and the other will receive the purple set!

To Enter:

leave a comment telling me your favorite color (doesn't have to be pink or purple, just in general)

January Ipsy Bag

A few days ago I received a package in the mail and was so excited to open it! When I saw the pink paced envelope I figured it was my Ipsy bag, a monthly beauty related subscription service! As most of y'all know, I LOVE Pop Sugar so I decided to branch out and try another subscription service and Ipsy was the one I chose! For $10 a month you receive a bag filled with deluxe sized samples (the samples are very large and I received a few full sized items).

I am excited to share with y'all what I received!

January Ipsy Bag

All of the products were inside a small makeup bag and sadly the bag disappointed me. While the bag is not exactly the same as the one above, it is just as boring! The bag itself was black nylon and pretty generic but the contents were far from that!

1) Josie Marin Argan Oil: I like this and it has tons of uses. On the box it talked about how it could be used for your hair, cuticles, blemishes, etc! I feel like this product is very versatile and was a decent size for a sample!

2) Nailtini Nail Lacquer: I had never heard of this brand until I received my bag. I love the color I received and this nail polish has a smooth consistency and a large brush! This is a full sized nail polish that retails for about $15 which already exceeds the cost of the bag.

3) Big Sexy Hair Hairspray: I actually have another mini bottle of this and I really like the way it works! I don't use hairspray that often so I love the small and convenient size of this packaging!

4) SOHO Concealer Brush: The bristles of this brush are super soft and I love the way that the brush fits perfectly around my fingers. It is designed to have grooves that fit your fingers so that you can easily control it! From what I can tell this is an awesome makeup brush brand!

5) Pacifica Lotion: This lotion is my favorite thing in the entire bag! It is so hydrating without leaving your hands oily! I have been putting it on right before I go to bed and it seems to be keeping my hands hydrated during these colder months. The smell is awesome too and this is a very large sample bottle that will surely last me a while!

Have you ever received an Ipsy bag?
What are your favorite subscription services?

Anchored In Blue

Yesterday I did not have school and I can not begin to explain how refreshing that was! I love lazy days where I can spend time with my family watching movies or napping and just hanging out in my pajamas!

It may not come as a surprise to many of you but my favorite color combination is bright pink and navy. To me, it reminds me of a girly nautical and when I discovered this pink and navy bow bracelet it really reassured my thought! This bracelet is from the Etsy shop Anchored in Blue and is such a statement piece. This bracelet is perfect for the upcoming warmer months and I am looking forward to accessorizing with it!

The rope cording used for the bracelet is sturdy and the clasp is easy to put on by yourself!

The clasp is large but not incredibly heavy which is nice!

Anchored in Blue has tons of different colors and options to choose from and I hope to get a few more of these to accessorize with in the upcoming seasons!

Prep In Your Step Art

I am excited to have this post up at a normal time! My past two posts were both uploaded at odd times because of how incredibly busy I have been lately but I am glad that I have been sticking to my resolution of blogging every weekday even when life is hectic!

One thing I love to do when I get stressed (aside from blogging) is paint! As a lot of you may know, I have an etsy shop filled with fun canvases that I have painted! The focus of most of the art in my shop is essential wardrobe pieces that I love to incorporate into my outfits!

I have recently added some new canvases and wanted to share them with my precious followers seeing as y'all probably love preppy pieces considering you are following my blog!

If you are interested in looking at more of my paintings and my etsy shop then click here!

This is my new favorite! Combining four articles of clothing into one painting is so cute and such a statement for any room! This canvas is fully customizable and can be done with any clothing article or colors!

Tory Burch Revas, my ideal pair of black flats!

What girl doesn't love nail polish? I have one of these sparkly Essie inspired canvases hung up in my bathroom!

If you like some of these canvases then stay connected with my shop because I have many more pictures of new designs for paintings that have yet to have been uploaded!

My favorite iPad Apps, What are your favorites?

As some of you may remember from my Christmas post, I received an iPad for Christmas! I absolutely love its size and convenience! I have already discovered quite a few Apps that are great and I would love your suggestions about your favorite apps as well!

Ignoring the preinstalled apps that come on every device, I am going to share which apps I already have installed!

The Lucky Non-Foldered/Use ALL of the Time apps are Gmail (for my blog) and Pinterest (Dorothy W.) ! If my iPad counted which apps were used the most it would definitely reassure me that those get the most attention!

Social Networking:
1. Twitter- I love using twitter as a tool for blogging and I think it is a great way to inform others of new posts and announcements! My twitter is @prepinyourstep if you are interested in following me.

2. Facebook- This is pretty self explanatory, who doesn't love Facebook!

3. Instagram- Another tool I utilize as a blogger, I love taking photos and looking at other peoples photos! My instagram is prepinyourstep!

4. Snapchat- Selfie heaven!

5. Blogger- Obviously this is one of my favorites since blogging is a major part of my life! I love how convenient it is to blog anywhere and have really enjoyed writing posts on my iPad!

1. Ebay- Recently I have really been liking ebay. You can find some super awesome deals on here! My best deal so far has been a signed Essentially Lilly Book for $17!

2. Etsy- Obsessed!

3. Polyvore- while this isn't really "shopping" I think it is best classified in this folder!

4. Nordstrom

5. Rue La La- My favorite of all flash sale sites! If you would like to join you can do so here!

1. Youtube- I would love to know why they deleted youtube from preinstalled apps but nonetheless I enjoy watching some youtube videos through this easy to navigate app!

2. Netflix- I love Netflix! As ridiculous as this sounds, some weekends I will watch Netflix on my iPad while I type blog posts on my computer! Netflix has amazing shows-5 seasons of Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie, DC Cupcakes, and countless others!

3. Pandora- I have stations for everything and don't know what I would do without pandora, Love!

1. Cloud On- This is absolutely amazing if you are a student who uses Microsoft products! This is a free app that connects with drop box and encompasses multiple Microsoft programs. I love this for note taking!!

2. Drop Box- Perfect for sharing documents between multiple workstations without having to email documents back and forth!

Now I need your help! Like I said earlier, I absolutely love blogging from my iPad but I have yet to find the perfect app to easily read my favorite blogs on the go! If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!

New Year Resolutions

I know what you are thinking, this seems really late! However, better late than never right! Although this month is half way over I still have plenty of time to continue working with my resolutions and I hope they give you a few ideas!

New Years Resolutions

I figured that as a blogger it seemed fitting to have both online and personal goals set in place!

Online Goals:

1) Blog Every Week Day: This can be extremely difficult with my hectic schedule during the school year as well as my 2 month duration of time at camp. This is definitely going to take a lot of planning on my end but I know that I will feel incredibly accomplished if I am able to achieve this!

2) Comment On More Blog Posts: One of the highlights of my day is to check my email to see if anyone commented on my post for the day! Knowing how much each comment means to me has inspired me to comment on more blog posts! The blogging community is such an uplifting and positive place and I hope my comments contribute to that atmosphere.

3) Inspire Others: I love receiving emails stating that I was the inspiration behind anthers blog! I loved it so much that I wrote an entire scholarship essay about it! Knowing that yo have impacted anthers life in a positive way is such a great feeling!

4) Wish People Happy Birthday on Facebook: I know this probably sounds very silly but I love looking through Happy Birthday wall posts at the end of my birthday and seeing that small gesture! It may take all of two seconds to type in Happy Birthday but it never fails to put a smile on my face!

Personal Goals:

1) Accept Everyone: Everyone struggles with comparing themselves as well as judging others. I hope to not get caught up in this and instead accept everyone for who they are considering I have no right to judge them! A subcategory of this resolution is that I want to give more compliments! An easy and kind way to brighten up the worst of days!

2) Be Spontaneous: I am an organized and neat person and it seems that my life revolves around a schedule. This year I hope to be a little more spontaneous, it is times like those that create the best memories!

3) Worry Less: I am definitely a stresser. When things are out of my control I become a worried mess! I need to recognize when situations are outside of my control and teach myself how to avoid worrying about them!

4) Save More: With college right around the corner I am hoping to put more money in my bank account. Especially with graduation and a job at camp coming up this year I am hoping to make my bank account a little bit fuller and my spending a little bit hungrier!

5) Be a Role Model: This one is similar to my online goal on inspiring others but I want to be a person and conduct myself in a manner that is worthy of recognition. I hope that others are able to see me as a role model and that my actions reflect this resolution!

What are you working on this year?

Keep Calm and Stitch On

One thing you may or may not know about me is that I love to be comfortable. Don't get me wrong, I love dressing up and looking cute also but you better believe that when I get home I am going to immediately change into nike shorts and a t-shirt. While some people may think that is boring and far from cute lately I have found fun ways to make it look like you put more effort into your comfy casual clothes. Knowing me you probably all now what I am going to say next but regardless, Monogram It! How could anyone go wrong with monogrammed nike shorts or a monogrammed tshirt and fortunately I have a new favorite etsy shop that sells both! Keep Calm and Stitch On is an adorable shop that sells a variety of different monogrammed products!

I probably own close to 20 pairs of nike shorts and this monogrammed pair is by far my favorite! Whether I am working out or doing homework this pair is a great way to appear as though I put effort into my casual clothes with no effort at all! I love that Amanda, the owner of Keep Calm and Stitch On, uses real Nike shorts as opposed to look a likes because you know the quality will be up to par! She offers a variety of colors to choose from and matches the monogram to the shorts!

Another item I love from her shop is her monogrammed pocket t-shirts! The shirt I own is navy with a green seersuckerer pocket! The simple, fully functional, pocket adds something special to an otherwise plain shirt! The pocket is hand sewn onto the shirt and Amanda offers tons of different fabric choices! You can't go wrong with any of the combinations available!

What is your favorite way to spruce up a casual outfit?

Miss Lucy's Monograms Review and Giveaway

Remember the fabulous posts this past year giving away a monogrammed rain jacket and a monogrammed spa wrap? Well, these fabulous giveaways from Miss Lucy's Monograms are continuing this year as well!

I know that for many people, their New Year Resolution is to become more organized. The thing that is usually forgotten with that resolution is that it can easily be played into traveling. When you are on vacation your suitcase and toiletry bags can easily become disorganized. One way I like to keep my toiletries organized is by storing all of my makeup in my monogrammed waffle toiletry case!

These bags are great because not only do they hold a ton of stuff but they also have a lined inside that makes cleaning easy! I love the open pocket on the inside of mine and I use it to store my makeup brushes when I travel. Aside from the pocket, the rest of the bag has plenty of room to store any makeup I may need to take when I travel!

This bag is available in 9 different colors, has close to 50 monogram fonts, and ample embroidery colors to chose from!

Want to win your own? Enter using the Rafflecopter widget below!

Good Luck!

What I am Wearing: Polka Dots and Tartan

Although the holiday season is over I am still loving accessorizing with tartan! While I don't think I can get away with it until next december, it was great while it lasted!

Aside from the Tartan bow, this outfit is an easy winter outfit! I love throwing on my polka dotted sweater with jeans and flats. This outfit is super comfortable and perfect for running some errands on a chilly day!

Fine Thread Art Custom Embroidery Monogrammed Oxford

Who doesn't love a monogram and an oxford shirt? Well then what is better than those two items combined? The only thing I can think of that is better than a monogrammed oxford is a shop that sells monogrammed oxfords, enter Fine Thread Art Custom Embroidery! Not only does this etsy shop sell cute button does but they also sell a slew of other monogrammed merchandise!

I received an oversized white monogrammed oxford from Fine Thread Art and I absolutely love it! I chose a black monogram because it would be versatile and match a variety of bottoms. My favorite way to wear this shirt, since it is oversized, is over a pair of leggings. Not only am I super comfy but I still look put together! This shirt was soft even before I washed it and I love the way it looks when I cuff the sleeves! I ordered mine in a medium so that it would have that oversized look that works well when pairing it with leggings!

I have seen these shirts as bridesmaids gifts to get ready in before a wedding and I think that is such a fun idea! While I have quite a while until I even think about getting married, that is one idea that I will keep stored away in my brain and definitely use when that big day comes. Until then, how cute would these be when you are getting ready for prom with your friends!

How would style your monogrammed oxford?
What are your favorite items from fine thread art?

Happy National Championship Monday and Roll Tide!
