Sunday Styling vol. 20

I’m currently writing this post mid-closet-cleanout, given that the weather has me in a spring cleaning-type mood. With two bags of donations already tied up and a big pile of clothes to figure out where to consign/sell, it only seemed right to share some spring-y outfit ideas with you.

I’m not getting my hopes up that we are in the clear when it comes to no longer having any winter weather, but a weekend of unexpected sunshine given the early in the week forecast and afternoon temperatures nearing the 80s has been so very nice! I think I’ll continue to put off some more of the cleanout with an afternoon walk to fully embrace it.

The outfits below have me craving a beach trip. Since I don’t have any of those in my future, sharing them here with y’all comes as a good second choice. You may recognize many of these pieces from the resort-wear roundup I did earlier last week (if you didn’t, you can find that post here). To shop any of the pieces, you’ll want to use the links directly underneath the images!

Saturday Shopping vol. 76

Happy Saturday! It was supposed to be rainy here all weekend, but fortunately, the weather has just been overcast today, but now it’s looking like there may be a few pockets of sun. I’ll be taking advantage of that by playing tennis with a few friends this afternoon before eventually figuring out what to do tonight.

The new arrivals I’ve seen online lately are filled with fun colors which you’ll see plenty of in today’s round-up of Saturday Shopping finds. If there’s anything you’re drawn to, you can click directly on the item in the image below to be taken to where they can be purchased!

Spring Break Reads With Phoebe of Read & Wright

We have an overcast and rainy weekend ahead of us in Birmingham this weekend, so this post from Phoebe couldn’t come at a better time. For being a short month, February always feels long, especially since I start to get over the winter weather and long for springtime. Even though we won’t have that for a little while, Phoebe is recommending some great spring break-worthy reads with us today!

Who else is dreaming of a vacation? I know it won’t be safe to travel any time soon, so I’m leaning on stories that will sweep me away to a warm beach and plop a cocktail in my hand. I’m more of a pool gal than a beach gal, but after these snow-filled months, I am ready to dig my toes in the sand and enjoy some sunshine!

Until that can happen safely, here are some books that can transport you to the warmth of spring and summer. I’m going to pretend I’m on spring break! How about you?

Shipped by Angie Hockman

This is a sweet romance between competing coworkers who are looking to increase their company’s social media presence to sell more cruises. Henley and Graehm are competing for a new digital marketing position while on a mission to collect customer data on a cruise through the Galapagos. Miscommunication, adventure, and sparks fly!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

This book is one of my top recommendations any time of year. It’s probably been on a list here before! When an entire wedding falls victim to food poisoning except for the Maid of Honor and Best Man, they’re tasked with taking the Bride and Groom’s honeymoon, so the trip doesn’t go to waste. Only problem? They can’t stand each other. Olive and Ethan find themselves in Hawaii, with one bed, and a tension that can’t be eased...unless they’re falling for each other? This one is funny, sexy, and just the right amount of spicy.

First Comes Like by Alisha Rai

I recently read this book set in Los Angeles and really enjoyed it! When a social media influencer and famous soap actor are caught canoodling, their families insist on meeting the new partner. But they’re not actually dating! When it becomes clear it will be a positive for both their careers, they begin spending more time together, allowing real feelings to grow.

The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han

If you love To All the Boys I Loved Before, look no further than this other Jenny Han series. It spans multiple years and summers at a family beach home. It’s filled with nostalgia, first loves, those teen butterflies, and found family. Content Warning: cancer, loss of a parent to cancer

I See London, I See France by Sarah Mylanowski

I read this book in a day a couple of years ago and still think about how fun it is. Two friends take a graduation trip through Europe and end up running into an ex. Their plans change, taking them from London and France to Amsterdam and the beaches of Monaco. It’s a great summery coming of age story that will have you laughing and swooning!

The Honeymoon by Rona Halsall

For all my thriller lovers! This is a thriller set on a secluded beach honeymoon. After a whirlwind romance, Chloe and Dan find themselves enjoying their beach getaway so much, Dan begins suggesting they stay forever. Chloe laughs it off, but when he becomes more and more adamant, she suddenly realizes he may never let her leave...

The Truth About Happily Ever After by Karole Cozzo

If you love to spend your vacations in Disney and are missing the magic of the parks, look no further than this new adult romance set in a fictional version of Disney! Alyssa is ready for a perfect summer with a boyfriend who will no longer be long-distance working at her favorite theme park. She’s literally a princess, but even that can’t save her reality. When things begin to fall apart, an unlikely friend helps Alyssa realize she’s a lot more than just a pretty princess, and reality is better than a fairy tale.

Stranger on the Beach by Michelle Campbell

thriller for all of you who love to be spooked! I am not one of them, but I know Dorothy is! Michelle Campbell’s A Stranger on the Beach follows Caroline, who has the crown jewel of beach houses. However, after a very public fight with her husband is witnessed by some neighbors, she realizes things aren’t as perfect as she led herself to believe. She turns to a stranger for comfort in a brief fling, but it may not have been a fling for this stranger she found on the beach.

The Girl From Widow Hills by Megan Miranda

I can’t do this synopsis justice, so here it is straight from the publisher!

“Everyone knows the story of “the girl from Widow Hills.”

Arden Maynor was just a child when she was swept away while sleepwalking during a terrifying rainstorm and went missing for days. Strangers and friends, neighbors and rescue workers, set up search parties and held vigils, praying for her safe return. Against all odds, she was found, alive, clinging to a storm drain. The girl from Widow Hills was a living miracle. Arden’s mother wrote a book. Fame followed. Fans and fan letters, creeps, and stalkers. And every year, the anniversary. It all became too much. As soon as she was old enough, Arden changed her name and disappeared from the public eye.

Now a young woman living hundreds of miles away, Arden goes by Olivia. She’s managed to stay off the radar for the last few years. But with the twentieth anniversary of her rescue approaching, the media will inevitably renew its interest in Arden. Where is she now? Soon Olivia feels like she’s being watched and begins sleepwalking again, like she did long ago, even waking outside her home. Until late one night, she jolts awake in her yard. At her feet is the corpse of a man she knows—from her previous life, as Arden Maynor.

And now, the girl from Widow Hills is about to become the center of the story, once again.”

Island Affair by Priscilla Oliveras

This cover screams spring break to me! Sought-after social media influencer Sara Vance, in recovery from an eating disorder, is coming into her own, with a potential career expansion on the horizon. However, her unreliable boyfriend disappoints her again, so she recruits Luis to join her on a family vacation and pretend to be her fiance.

Soon, he and Sara have memorized their “how we met” story and are immersed in family dinners, bike tours, private snorkeling trips, sharing secrets, and slow, melting kisses. This fake relationship starts to feel a lot more real, just as it’s time for Sara to return home.

I hope these bring some sunshine to your life and transport you to the spring break of your dreams until we can all travel safely again! If you do enjoy them, be sure to let me know! I love hearing from you.

Happy Reading!

Add to Cart: Willow Park Boutique’s Le Printemps Collection

This weekend was a tease for spring in the very best way. It’s funny to say that after getting snow the Tuesday prior, but that about sums up Alabama weather for you. My roommate and I were just having a conversation about how this is the time of year when we get so sick of the clothes we’ve been rotating through non-stop all season but know there must be at least one more cold snap on its way before we can comfortably switch our closets from winter to spring.

Just because it’s too early for me to make the switch, online retailers are already doing so, and I just came across a collection of items for spring that I wish would all show up in my closet. I’ve followed along with Willow Park Boutique for a few years now as their pieces are all items I could see myself wearing, but it wasn’t until they launched their Le Printemps Collection (I was able to shop it yesterday as an email subscriber, but I believe it officially launched on their site today) that I finally bit the bullet and ordered something. As soon as my order shipped, I opted in for text notifications since my excitement for the Caroline Top in French Bleu Floral is a bit excessive, given that it’s just a blouse.

While I was tempted by all the pieces in the small collection, I know that blouses get more wear than anything else in my closet, and I have no doubt that this cute blue and green printed one will be a staple in my spring wardrobe. I’m already picturing it with white jeans for dinners outside and jean shorts for a Saturday margarita run. It looks like the top may have already sold out, but the dress in the same print is still available, as are a few other patterns of tops and dresses. So that y’all wouldn’t miss this cute launch, I’ve included all the pieces below for you to shop!

Step Into My Week 2.22

I don’t know what got into me lately, but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to type up blog posts at the end of the day. I have so many ideas I haven’t gotten around to posting about because I haven’t made enough time to sit down and write the actual text of the post for them. Usually, I try to get most parts of posts done on weekends, but with those being busier and work picking up recently, I have been putting it off. I know March is about to be a busier month in terms of weekend activities, so hopefully, this week and next, I’ll feel a resurgence of motivation to write!

I started my week by having a Monday shoot which I haven’t had to do in a while (although I have one today as well). Typically, Mondays are reserved for meetings and more computer-based work, so I didn’t have the best attitude about having to leave my house, especially since it was so cold and rainy. I was supposed to have a location shoot on Wednesday, so when I got to the office, I started unboxing props for that and packing them up before we began taking pictures of the coffeecake that was our focus for the day. As the day progressed, the weather started getting worse, and there was an increased likelihood for a freeze, so we were asked to be out of the office by 2:00, which meant speeding through the last part of our shoot. I ran by Amanda’s house on my way home to help her with a few things, and while there, Hunter had decided because of the cold, he was going to make soup, so it was nice to have that to look forward to despite the temperatures. The soup took about 2 hours to cook, and while it was doing that, Hunter read, and I worked on my needlepoint project. That night we watched some of the second season of Netflix’s glass blowing show before I left for bed.

I was shocked on Tuesday morning when I looked out the window, and there was snow on the ground. I knew we were going to have a freeze, but snow wasn’t a given, so it was really exciting to see. Since everyone has already pivoted to working from home, it wasn’t a “true” snow day since I still had work to do. I told myself I’d be responsible and get all of my meetings done before going out in it but sadly, by that point, it melted and I have no pictures to show from the day. Later in the day, I went back over to Hunter’s since we were going to cook one of the items we got at the butcher shop the previous weekend, and while that cooked, we finished the second season of Blown Away. We ended up watching Angels and Demons (after having watched The DaVinci Code last week) that night before I called it a night.

Since we had had a snow day the previous day and couldn’t drive anywhere due to snow and ice, my shoot for Wednesday that was supposed to be on location got moved to today. It was nice to have an unexpected day of working from home on my computer, but it felt like it went so slowly since I had already allocated most of the rest of my to-do list for the week. I went ahead and started finding props for a shoot I have in March and was able to work from our living room in the afternoon. Around 5:30, my roommate and I went to tour a house we may rent, and once we were back made our dinners and ate them while watching the new To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movie. I think we were both in bed well before 9:00 that night.

I started my Thursday with an early workout at True40 before getting work done at home in the morning. In the afternoon, I went into the office to finish packing my bins for my Monday shoot. I brought home vases to use for the arrangements and linens to iron so that I wouldn’t have to do all of that in the office and instead could finalize my prep work at home over the weekend. I had everything to make a shrimp pasta recipe and went over to Hunter’s to make that in the evening. We watched the first of the more recent Sherlock Holmes movie that night before I went to bed.

Friday was the day of the test Hunter has been studying for, so I got up early and went to Crestline Bagel to grab breakfast and drop it off at his house for him. After reading in bed for a bit, it was time for me to start my workday, which included a few meetings for upcoming shoots. Once I had sent out all of the details for those, I was able to start prepping emails to order in props this coming week. When my workday ended at noon, I went for a long walk while listening to an audiobook. IO came home and made myself lunch and did some behind-the-scenes blog work that has been pretty time-consuming lately while watching Criminal Minds. I eventually showered and alternated between blog work and needlepointing until close to 5:00. To celebrate the end of Hunter’s test, we had plans to go to Chez Fon Fon for dinner, but our reservation wasn’t until 8:45, so we went to Dread River Distillery for an appetizer and drinks beforehand. All of the seating at Chez Fon Fon is outside, but fortunately, they had heaters, so it wasn’t too cold! As always, I got their burger, and it was delicious. Afterward, we watched some of the third Harry Potter movie before I finally decided to go to sleep.

I woke up earlier than usual on Saturday and was able to run some errands and pick up flowers for my Monday shoot that morning. I came home and made myself lunch, and got ready before meeting Macy and Drew at Back40 since the sun was finally out and the weather wasn’t too cold! My roommate and Hunter met us there, and we ended up seeing lots of people we knew who must’ve had the same idea to enjoy the nice weather we were getting. That night Hunter and I had plans to go to his parent’s house to celebrate one of his brother’s and his mom’s birthday. We ate a good meal there and stayed and chatted for a while before watching some of the fourth Harry Potter movie

Sunday morning, I slept in a little later until closer to 9:00 and had a pretty lazy morning while also getting laundry done. I made lunch and then went over to Hunter’s to get him to meet Macy and Drew to play tennis. We played doubles for about two hours, and afterward, Hunter and I went to get ice cream at Big Spoon. Since Home Depot was on the way back, we made a stop there before I got my car and went to the grocery store. I then needed to work on two flower arrangements for my shoot and listened to an audiobook, and talked on the phone with my parents while doing those. Eventually, I showered, made dinner, and tidied my room before getting in bed by around 8:00.

I’m glad to be getting my busiest day of the week accomplished today, but I know it’s just setting the tone for how this week will likely go with lots on my calendar for work. Maybe having a lot to do will help me to stay more productive and on top of things this week!

Resort-Wear Fashion Finds

I cannot believe I am doing this post, but after a very cold week here (and I know much colder in other places), I think I needed some bright colors and summery silhouettes to fill my screen. Part of the reason I say that I can’t believe I’m posting this is because not too long ago, I was completely ragging on the idea of resort wear and the fact that these styles are released during the coldest months of the year. Maybe I’m a bit jaded because I’ve never had a warm-weather vacation scheduled in the winter and therefore have no reason to be looking at swimwear when instead I am swallowing myself in sweaters, but today, I’m pretending I do and encourage you to do the same.

If you’re like me with no beach resort plans in the near future, maybe this post can serve as inspiration for future warm-weather vacations or poolside stints when the temperatures are well above freezing. Since I put together this fun collage of resort-wear finds optimistically, the price points of the items are all over the place. There are so many deals included with a number of the items featured under $30, but I will warn you there are a few dresses on here with higher price tags than I tend to include in my posts. Maybe by the time there’s an excuse to wear some of these items those more expensive items will be on sale!

There are two ways to shop this collage that will hopefully make adding items to your cart as relaxing as the vacation you’d wear them on. Above, you can click the links to the items, or below, you can click directly on the pieces in the image to be taken to where they can be purchased! Even if you’re not shopping, I hope that this post brings a bit of happiness to anyone experiencing an especially cold and wintery day!

Lake Pajamas Annual Sale (Sizing Details)

It happened; we finally got snow in Birmingham yesterday! With people working from home, some of the snow day anticipation lost its excitement since it still meant a typical work-from-home day, but once I looked outside my window in the morning and saw that snow had actually stuck to the ground, it came back. That meant switching out one pair of pajamas for another to stay comfy and warm, and as you may have guessed if you’ve been around here for a while, those pajamas were my ones from Lake Pajamas.

I love Lake Pajamas and have accumulated quite a few pairs since discovering the brand a few years ago. For whatever reason, I feel like I can justify spending more on pajamas than other clothing because of how frequently they get worn. Lake Pajamas are definitely on the more expensive side, but today their Black Friday sale started with prices up to 45% off. If you’re interested in getting a pair for yourself or for a friend, now is a great opportunity, although the sizes will start selling out fast.

The sale officially begins at 9 CST and includes men’s, women’s, and children’s styles. If you’re happening to click on this post as I’m posting it (about 30 minutes before the sale begins), you can start adding items to your basket prior to when the prices reduce at 9:00.

I wear a small in all the Lake Pajamas I own, but because they have an elastic waistband, I could probably do a medium as well. As I’m looking through their site now and clicking on many of the long-long styles, I think I’d consider ordering a medium in those just so that the pants are sure to be long enough. The one pair of pants I own in these pajama sets seem a bit cropped, so going up a size could be one way to avoid that. It is important to note that these will shrink if you put them in the dryer, so be sure to lay them flat to dry.

If I had to choose just one pair of Lake Pajamas to take the prize as my all-time favorite, it would be the long-short style (and I really want these for my growing collection!). I love their long sleeve pajama tops paired with the shorts since they work well for sleeping year-round, but you really can’t go wrong with any of their pajamas, especially at these sale prices. You’ve probably spotted a few pairs of Lake Pajamas on previous years’ gift guides, too, since they make a really thoughtful gift for so many different recipients.  Below are some of my favorite styles, but I will warn you to act quickly if there’s something you like since the brand already mentioned that they would not be restocking sizes in the sale.

To shop any of the items below, you can click directly on the product in the image to be taken to where it can be purchased. Lake Pajamas also has men’s and kid’s styles on their site. Disclaimer: I made the graphic below last night before knowing exactly which styles would be on sale, so there is a chance that some of the included items may not be discounted. Click over to the site to find out!

Step Into My Week 2.15

Happy (cold) Monday to you! We have freezing rain in the forecast today so going into the office feels a little bit less than exciting, especially since I know I have a busy week ahead. Plus, my work schedule keeps changing, which doesn’t work particularly well for the planner in me. It took me a bit to remember what all I had been up to this past week, but I did my best to fill you in below!

I started my Monday morning with a workout class at true40 before having video meetings most of the morning. I eventually showered and made myself lunch before working on documents about those meetings to send to the teams I was working with. Later in the afternoon, I went to Amanda’s house to photograph and style pieces for her upcoming painting launch. Now that I’ve seen them in person, I can’t wait to see them purchased and hung in people’s homes! That night I made myself dinner and took my needlepoint project to Nell’s apartment to watch The Bachelor with her. Once the episode ended, I came home and went to bed.

Tuesday, I had a shoot, so I was in the office early to pull props for that and begin setting up. We were only shooting one recipe and styling it a bunch of different ways, so I was, fortunately, able to get through a bunch of follow up product emails I had in my inbox. I think we wrapped up the shoot a little after lunch, and I came home and got some more work done from the sofa. Nell and I went on a walk in the afternoon since it was surprisingly comfortable outside, and that night I went over to Hunter’s house, and we cooked some steaks he had purchased along with potatoes and broccoli. I had mentioned that a local ice cream place had released a couple of flavors that sounded good, so we went to Big Spoon to try those out while watching Netflix’s Enola Holmes before I left to go home.

My second shoot of the week was on Wednesday for some summer recipes, which contradicted the weather outside. We wrapped that up around 2:00, and I was able to unload my cart and organize my desk area before I eventually left and headed home. I had purchased the ingredients to make a soup over the weekend and finally got around to it on Wednesday night before my roommate and I watched the Free Brittany documentary that recently came out. Given my lack of knowledge of pop culture, it’s really not surprising that I had no idea any of that was happening, but it was interesting to watch nonetheless.

The weather was terrible on Thursday, which made me especially glad to work from home that day. I slept in until right around 7:00 when my workday started and was able to get a lot done without ever having to venture into the rain. Hunter came over for dinner that night since I had lots of soup left from the previous night, and we watched The DaVinci Code after we cleaned up from dinner. I didn’t realize how long that movie was, so I was very glad we started it early. After he left, I got in bed to read but fell asleep almost immediately instead.

I went to another True40 class on Friday that was Valentine’s Day themed and spent the rest of the morning on video calls for my shoots this week. Around lunchtime, I went to the store and then showered and cleaned up the house a bit since a couple of friends we’ve seen here were coming over for a Galantine’s Day celebration. There were so many delicious treats, and we mainly just hung out before my roommate insisted we play MASH. The girls left a little before 10:00, which led to an early bedtime for me!

Saturday morning, I woke up around 8:30 and worked on a blog post in bed with a cup of coffee before eventually getting my day going. I had purchased the ingredients to make a flourless chocolate cake that was so easy and equally delicious that I made that morning. I did some laundry, ran the dishwasher, showered, and needlepointed while watching TV before eventually getting dressed for the day. Hunter wanted to go to a butcher shop that was about 20 minutes away to get stuff to make for dinner the following night, so we did that before heading back to his house. We played chess and Mario kart for a little while until eventually heading to our friend’s Macy and Drew’s house to eat dinner together and have a small game night. I took the cake I had made over there and was happy to have more people to share it with since it was very rich. We left around 10:00 after playing a new-to-me game that I’ve now forgotten the name of.

I slept in a little bit on Sunday morning before finally putting away my laundry, working on blog posts, and making a grocery list. That afternoon I had a zoom meeting as a member of the chapter advisory board for Birmingham Southern’s KD chapter, which lasted about an hour. I then went to the store and made soup to eat for the week. I continued to work on some blog stuff before showering and heading over to Hunter’s house so that we could make the food we had gotten the day before as our Valentine’s Day celebration. We had swiss and bacon dip as an appetizer, Mahi Mahi with vegetables and cous cous for dinner, and the remains of the chocolate cake I had made for dessert. We tried to find a movie to watch, but nothing on Netflix sounded that good/was what we were in the mood for so we ended up watching some of the second season of the glass blowing show, Blown Away, instead.

I hope that y'all had a nice week and weekend!

Saturday Shopping vol. 75

Happy Saturday! I know it’s cold in lots of places today, which makes this a good weekend to have minimal plans. Once I finish writing this post, I will be making myself another cup of coffee and attempting to make this cake. I’m definitely using Valentine’s Day as an excuse to bake, but I’ve been wanting to try a new sweet recipe and hope it turns out as good as the pictures.

Today’s Saturday Shopping finds are all over the place. While I want to start shopping for spring, the forecast and a lack of upcoming plans have discouraged that, so I’d rather share them with y’all here instead! And for those of you who have been living in leggings and sweatshirts like I have been, there are plenty of cute picks on here for you as well. I hope y’all have a nice weekend, and if you see any pieces you are interested in purchasing, you can click directly on them in the image below!

Valentine's Day Gifts For Your Girlfriends (All Under $10)

I meant to get these ideas up earlier in February, but my motivation to write posts this week has been lacking. Fortunately, there’s still some time before Valentine’s Day to stock up on some sweet gifts for your girlfriends to celebrate!

Most of y’all are probably aware of how much I love gift-giving and know I love any excuse to surprise friends with a happy when possible. Valentine’s Day is no exception, and I had so much fun brainstorming affordable gift ideas to give friends for the occasion. Even if you’re not able to gather with your girlfriends the day of, these would look precious dropped off on their front porch or in their mailbox to show them some love.

While I did link to specific items available online, my guess is that a trip to Target or somewhere local would be perfectly suitable as you try to find some of the products I’ve included in these gift ideas.  Better yet, these individual Galentine gift ideas are all under $10, with many being much more affordable by splitting up packs of items among your friends.

I’ve included gift tags I made for each gifting idea within this post so that you can easily screenshot them and print them or even just use the phrasing on tags you make yourself. I can’t wait to hear which of these are your favorite. At the end of the day, it’s fun to remember Valentine’s Day is all about showing the people in your life how much you love them, so even without a small gift, a token of your appreciation by way of a phone call or text is just as appreciated!
