Gift Guide: White Elephant/Dirty Santa

This is the first year in quite a few that I feel like I haven’t had a dirty Santa/white elephant exchange to shop for. If you’re thinking to yourself, “what is she talking about,” you can read more about this fun type of gift exchange here. It feels like the game was made to allow my sense of humor and love of gift-giving to combine and I am a bit bummed that I won’t be doing this with friends this year. I know some families take the same concept of dirty Santa and use it in actual family-wide gift exchanges for items they may actually want to receive. But since my friends and I tend to stick to a modest price range, for the most part, the gifts are quirky but often still useful.

Even though we aren’t making a night of watching one another unwrap the gifts we’ve brought to see their fit of hysterics, I had so much fun imagining what I would bring as a gift for a game of dirty Santa. It nearly made up for the fact that we are skipping it this year and will undoubtedly help me bring my A-game next year. While pulling together these items (all of which are under $30, but most under $20), I realized that these gifts would be really fun stocking stuffers as well!

Before we get into all of these ideas, I wanted to take a moment to share all of the different guides I’ve already shared for other recipients this year. I’ve linked directly to them below to make shopping as easy as possible.

  1. Hi...
Whether you call it White Elephant or Dirty Santa, the game sticks to the same format. We're not sure where the word choice "Dirty Santa" originated but, it's meant to refer to game participants, the "Santas," stealing desirable gifts from each other.
