Step Into My Week 7.7

After a long weekend, I am back. I typically don’t post blog posts on days when I take a vacation from work, so since I was supposed to be off yesterday, I decided to push this post to today. I did end up working and am glad I did since I was incredibly productive and am feeling a little less stressed about the week to come.

When gathering photos to share this week, I realized what a lousy job I did of capturing my week, but regardless hopefully, y’all still enjoy reading about it even if it’s not documented well by photos.

I've been living in these pjs on work from home days!

I started my Monday morning with a workout class at True40 to get my day going. I worked from home most of this week since I wasn’t scheduled for any shoots. This gave me a lot of time to try to get ahead on some of the shoots I have this month since it is shaping up to be a busy one. Nell came over later in the afternoon to help me with a few blog-related things, and then we had a plan to get carryout sushi from Abhi in Mountain Brook Village. The plan was to eat it on a soccer field nearby, but it started to rain right as we sat down. We took it back to my house instead and caught one another up on our weekends. A friend had brought us her family’s Wii console and games since my roommate and I had talked about how much fun it would’ve been to have that during quarantine, so Nell and I were going to play that but sadly didn’t have the right batteries to do so. Instead, we ended up playing catch phase for a little while before she left to go home, and I got ready for bed.

On Tuesday, I spent most of the day working from home but went to the office for a bit to return some packages and clean up my desk. After shoots, my desk usually looks like a mess, so it was nice to get it back to normal. I sent some emails, spent a lot of time sourcing products, and crossed a few other tasks off of my to-do list. After the workday was done, I went for a walk and showered before going over to a friend’s house to watch a show before coming home and going to bed.

Wednesday, I also worked from home most of the day and was able to finalize some products for a big shoot I have this week. Getting all of that figured out tends to take a lot longer than one would normally think, so it felt good to have everything squared away. I went to a workout class in the afternoon and then had bible study that night.

I went to True40 in the morning on Thursday and worked until I was off the clock for the long holiday weekend at noon. I had some returns to do for work that I got done before that and ran by the office as well, so it was a productive workday even with it being shortened. In the afternoon, I hung out on my couch working on some blog posts and watching the Bold Type before going to a friend’s house to watch a soccer game and eventually go to Home Depot. We also made it to the grocery store to get supplies for the weekend before coming back and figuring out what we wanted to do for dinner. We went to Martin’s Barbecue in Cahaba Heights, which I had never been to. It was good, and I liked that there was plenty of outdoor seating. After that, we went back to my house and played the Wii for about 3 hours. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort were our go-to games, but I’m excited to try some of the other ones my friend left in the box.

I didn’t have to work on Friday, so I went with my friend and his roommate to Lake Martin for the day. It is only about an hour and a half drive from Birmingham, which made it pretty doable for a day trip. We grabbed breakfast/lunch when we got there around 10:00 and then took the jet skis out to explore the lake before going to get the boat from the marina. The rest of the day was spent boating around and swimming and dodging a storm for about an hour. After everything was cleaned up and back where it needed to go, we got in the car and headed back to Birmingham around 8:00. I was so excited to shower once we finally made it back and fell asleep very quickly after getting clean.

Saturday morning, I spent some time organizing and cleaning my room, putting away laundry, and tidying up our living spaces. Most people seemed to be out of town for the fourth, so it was a very laid back day. I hung out with my friend who was in town, and we watched a lot of soccer and the tv show The 100 while grilling out. Later that night, we got ice cream at Jeni’s and watched the firework show taking place at the Vulcan from the Pepper Place parking lot. We grabbed a beer at Avondale before calling it a day.

Sunday was pretty similar to Saturday in that it was very low key. I went and got Crestline Bagel in the morning and only saw three cars out and about. I went to my friend’s house later that day, and we played Scrabble and SpotIt before eventually deciding to play some tennis. That may not have been my best idea considering it was 95 degrees, and kicking the soccer ball around afterward only made me sweat even more. After that, it started to rain, so I called my parents and caught up with them before going to get pizza for dinner that evening and getting ready for the week ahead.

I hope that y’all had a lovely holiday weekend even if it looked a little different than year’s past. I know mine did, but I’m excited that I will be getting to have my more traditional Fourth of July weekend this coming weekend with a trip to the beach with my family. There’s a lot for me to get done before that, so in the meantime, I’ll be grinding away at my to-do list and hoping for more days as productive as yesterday!
