Step Into My Week 7.14

I am hitting the ground running this Tuesday morning but didn't want to do so without sharing my week with y'all!

I was going originally going to take Monday off since I had planned to go to the beach for the weekend of the Fourth, but since that didn’t happen, I took that vacation time off the calendar and went into the office instead. And I am so glad that I did. I had such a productive day, which was much needed ahead of a busy week. After being at the office all day, I went to a True40 class in the afternoon with one of my favorite instructors, and it was, without a doubt, the hardest True40 class I’ve ever taken. Nell and I went on a short walk after that, and I could feel my legs shaking while we were walking. I got back, and our house felt a little warmer than usual, but I didn’t think much of it since I was in a hurry to eat dinner before meeting my friend Allie for ice cream at Jeni’s. Our Jeni’s opened a little over a month ago, and I’ve already been four or five times. My go-to flavor is the brown butter almond brittle, but my brother said I need to give their butter cake a try. After catching up with her for over an hour, it was time to head home, rinse off, and go to sleep.

Tuesday morning, I had a shoot, so it was back to the office for that. Our office is still open but only for those who have to be there, which includes me on shoot days and on days where I have to prep for a shoot. We only had one shot to get which gave me time to unpack a lot of boxes that had arrived for the big shoot I had scheduled for Thursday. I stayed at the office until around 3:30 and came home to finish my workday. That evening a friend and I went over to our friends Macy and Drew’s house for a dinner of leftovers with a couple that is new-ish to the area. We had a great time hanging out together and left around 8:00. When I got home, it became apparent that something was wrong with our airconditioning, given that the thermostat was at 78. I wish I could say that’s the hottest it got, but unfortunately, given the heat advisory notifications we got throughout the week, it kept creeping up until it was fixed on Friday afternoon. I would not wish a broken AC on even my worst enemy in the heat of the summer. I attempted to power through the heat by making pasta salad to eat for the week, but that ended up making things even hotter, so once that was finished, I went to bed so that I wouldn’t make things even worse.

I'm wearing this $25 top that can be worn on or off the shoulder.

It was pouring on Wednesday morning, but I forced myself to get up early and head to a True40 class anyway. It was a great class, and despite being sore, it was probably just what my body needed. I know I’ve mentioned this in previous posts, but in order to comfort those of you concerned for my health, True40 has taken a multitude of precautions to keep the studio clean and compliant with the CDC guidelines. We wear masks until the class begins and are never within 6 feet of anyone due to the small class sizes they have implemented. I am so thankful to be able to have working out back in my routine, as I am much more productive when doing so. I came home to shower after that and then headed to the office to jump on a video call (which I took in our prop room) and transform one of our studio spaces into a dining room for the shoot the following day. That included hanging wallpaper and moving lots of furniture, so when 5:00 hit, I was more than ready to head home. Naturally, the house was still hot, so when bible study got canceled and Macy asked if I wanted to go for a walk, I was sold. We walked just under 3 miles and had a lovely catch up session in the meantime. After that, it was back home to shower and pretend not to realize that the thermostat wasn’t reading 82.

Thursday was the day of my shoot, and it definitely felt like a long day. I was very thankful to have on comfy shoes with how much I was moving around throughout the day. We had seven recipes in addition to the detail shots of the “dining room” I set up for a Hanukkah Tea and didn’t wrap until around 5:30. I was exhausted after that and still needed to pack for the weekend ahead. After doing laundry and laying out some of my clothes, Nell and I decided to get Chick-fil-A milkshakes and catch each other up on our weeks. Once we had done that, I finished a few tasks before going to sleep.

I started my Friday with a True40 class and showered quickly once I got home to be ready for a work call at 8:30. That was the extent of my workday since I had taken the day off to drive down to the beach for a weekend with my family. I packed up my car with more stuff than one person should take for a weekend and picked up the friend who was joining me, and we were on our way around 12:30. We lucked out that there was no traffic on our drive and made it to our family beach house before 5:00. After not being able to go last weekend, I was thrilled to be back with my family and at the beach. Out of an abundance of caution, my grandparents stayed in one of our houses and my family and friend stayed in the other, and we did our very best to social distance while enjoying each other’s company. We ate dinner outside that night and ate cake to celebrate my dad’s birthday that evening as well. I think we all called it a night before 10:00 so that we could be ready for a full day in the sun the following morning.

My brother, friend, and I went paddleboarding on Saturday morning and even found a deep spot to cool off in. We were gone for an hour and a half and returned to find my parents set up in beach chairs in the water. We sat on the paddleboards talking to them for a while before sitting in the front yard for a bit before eating lunch. After lunch, my friend and I read on the beach before taking out some floats we had to bob around in the water. Once we came back up to the beach, I went inside to make us bushwhackers (basically a milkshake that has rum in it) since we weren’t going to make it to Pirate’s Cove (a beach dive) while in town since we didn’t want to take the boat out. I thought they tasted pretty spot on, so we sipped those on the beach before coming in for the day. We got cleaned up and went over to the boathouse before coming back to a seafood dinner. After dinner, the guys smoked a cigar on the porch, and we all had a good time chatting with my grandparents.

Since my friend and I took Monday off, we were able to have another full day at the beach on Sunday. After eating breakfast, we went paddleboarding in the other direction and parked the boards on the beach for a little while to swim in another deep spot we found. While swimming, a dolphin came pretty close to us chasing fish, which was really cool, and we jumped on the boards to follow it for a while. Eventually, it got too far away, so we turned around and headed back to the house. Everyone was sitting outside, so we joined and played some cornhole before lunch. After lunch, we went back out on the beach to read and then float in the water. We sat under the magnolia tree in the front yard for a bit before eventually coming in since it looked like a storm was coming. By the time we had finished dinner, the sky was really dark, and the rain had started coming down. Eventually, my family went to bed, and my friend and I sat on the front porch watching the storm. I have never seen lightning so intense, and it was cool to watch it across the water from the safety of our screened porch. After watching that for about an hour, we called it a night, and I slept like a rock, given how much enjoy sleeping during thunderstorms.

I hope that y’all also had a nice week and weekend. I am happy to report that when I got home yesterday, our airconditioning was fixed!
