White Off The Shoulder Top & The Perfect Linen Shorts

Despite the fact that I’ve been wearing workout clothes for the past week while moving in I really do LOVE cute summer clothes. Growing up in Alabama and having school uniforms from kindergarten on I’ve always felt as though my summer wardrobe was more developed than other seasons. While casual more casual pieces seem to make up the most of it I finally purged some of the pieces that I don’t wear as often to make room for items that look good paired a variety of ways without it being too noticeable that I am wearing the same thing. These shorts from J.Crew do just that. While I used to adore J.Crew’s chino shorts I have come to realize that when given the option I will always choose lighter-weight more flowy options over the structured style of the chino shorts.

I've worn these shorts with so many different tops but I think this particular combination may be my favorite. For starters, this Lilly Pulitzer off the shoulder top does a wonderful job at staying put on your shoulders, a rarity with some similar silhouettes. It's also incredibly soft. If you've never felt the cotton material that Lilly uses for similar items then you need to because the only other piece of clothing that I have that is equally is soft is a pair of pajama pants. I know the tuck in style isn't everyone's cup of tea so I am pleased to inform you that it looks equally as cute tucked out (seen here). The shorts have a cute tie cinch on the hip and by tucking this shirt in it becomes a lot more visible. I wore this outfit a few weeks ago at the beach to go out to lunch and even my grandmother thought it was adorable (win!) Paired with my everyday jewelry and one of the most worn pairs of sandals in my closet this outfit has become a great one to have at my disposal as it is easy to throw on but still looks put together.

As for sizing I found these shorts to be pretty spacious. I typically wear a 2 in J.Crew shorts and initially tried these on in a small and they were a little roomy. I really like the way the extra small fits! As for the top I'd say it is pretty normal. I have it in a small although could have also done a medium without having to worry that the elastic at the top wouldn't be tight enough.

Today I start my first official day of graduate school. I am taking classes to work towards my masters in Early Childhood Education and after our meeting last night am a little iffy about how this will go. That may have been due to the fact that I had about 2 and a half hours of homework for only one of the two classes after getting out at 8:00 pm but that's to be determined. I have been getting more settled into my apartment which is good (and I'll be updating y'all along the way as it will take a while to get it all put together) but I am so ready for my bed frame to finally get here. Yesterday I was stalking my amazon order and I should be able to get it today! I've been sharing small updates on my instagram stories so be sure to follow along there (@prepinyourstep)!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday and are able to power through the home stretch to the weekend!

  3. I love the shorts. They look extremely comfortable.

  4. The color of the shorts are summery without being a neon pink which I personally think is hard to find! I'm going to have to check the ones you're wearing out.

  5. Those sandals absolutely adorable!!!

  6. This outfit is so cute on you, Dorothy! I have these shorts in the white color and absolutely love them- they're so comfortable!
