Step Into My Week 5.4

Happy May! There’s something about a new month that I love. Although I’m not at work turning the page of my desk calendar (which I’m pretty sure is still on March), it feels positive since April looked a lot different than everyone expected. Things are beginning to reopen with lots of restrictions here in Birmingham, and if I’m honest, I don’t really know how to feel about all of this. While it’s nice to think that this is a step in the right direction for things to go back to normal, I know it will be a long time before that is the case. May through summer always feel like some of the most fun months, so, sadly, that may not be the case this year since friends are still scattered and many of the things we were looking forward to have been called off or postponed. I feel lucky to have my job and feel healthy, so I can’t do much in the way of complaining since my complaints all seem pretty selfish. I’ve been attempting to do my part by staying home and only seeing the same people, so hopefully, other people continue to do the same thing so that there isn’t a second wave of this, and it can be over sooner rather than later.

As for I hit the ground running Monday morning with about 2 hours of video conference calls in the morning. From there, I worked on some photo worksheets for the shoots I had scheduled and sent out emails and planned ahead on a couple of shoots. Then I planted the windowboxes I shared in Friday's post and filmed how-to videos for one of our magazines to share on their social media. That pretty much filled my day, and once it was time to call it a night, I decided to go on a run since the weather was nice. I made it about 4 miles, which felt really good. When I got home, I showered, made some food for the week, and my roommate and I watched Netflix’s show Outerbanks before going to bed.

I had to go into the office for a shoot on Tuesday that went a lot better and faster than I expected. It was focused on recipes with bananas, which was a bummer since I hate bananas, but we wrapped up around 12:30, and I was able to eat my lunch at home instead of the office. I did a few things for work before showering and getting ready to go to a friend’s family’s game night. We ate dinner and then played Mexican Train. I had never played it before, but it was a lot of fun and a good mix of skill and luck. I won three of the individual games (beginners’ luck, I suppose) but ended up coming in second overall. We left around ten, and I went to bed a little after that.

All-day on Wednesday it looked like it was going to storm but never really did. I did some work at my desk in the morning before sitting in my bed to work in the afternoon. The gloomy weather made it more challenging to want to be productive, and eventually, I decided to go for a walk since I kept putting it off since I thought it was going to rain. Of course, when I was on my walk was when it actually did rain, but it just motivated me to shower and actually wash my hair when I got back. Nell and I talked on the phone after that to catch each other up on our lives. I made dinner after that and then got on Zoom for our virtual bible study before going to bed.

I was back in the office again on Thursday for another shoot, which ended up lasting until close to 6:00. It was a bit of a rude awakening working a whole day in the office, but we were able to get two upcoming covers done, which felt productive. I was excited to head home afterward. I made tacos with a friend that night, and there was plenty leftover for us to each have them for lunch the next day. After that, we played battleship for a while before I headed home.

Friday morning, I slept in until work started at 8:00. I did some work in my bed before putting on workout clothes and heading outside to work there until around 12:30. I didn’t get through as much of my to-do list as I would’ve liked, but I’m learning that’s just how it seems to be as of late. I ate leftovers from the night before for lunch and then went to a friend’s house to hang out and play Mario Party. We went and got crawfish from a food truck a bit later on and then walked to Saw’s for bushwhackers before it got too dark. We played a trivia game for a while and eventually called it a night.

Saturday morning, I slept in a little bit before getting ready to go play tennis. We played close to 20 games, so it was no surprise when we were hungry and ready for lunch when we wrapped up. We ate sandwiches outside and played a game of scrabble before I went home to get cleaned up. Saturday night was very laid back, and I ended up watching a few episodes of a show before going to bed pretty early.

It was really pretty on Sunday despite the temperatures creeping up, so I got takeout breakfast from Crestline bagel as a treat before watching Chopped for a while. Eventually, a friend and I decided to go to a soccer field nearby and kick the ball around for a while. That was fun, although very hot, so I went home to shower afterward. I did some laundry and cleaned my room for the week ahead before calling my parents and catching up on the phone with another friend. The weekend ended with my roommate and I eating dinner and watching Outerbanks on the couch before a semi-early bedtime.

I hope that y’all had a great week and weekend!
