Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale Sizing Tips

Happy Monday! Fortunately, the Lilly Pulitzer team wanted to make it extra happy by hosting their After Party Sale today (did you catch my post with tips here?). For those of you who may not know, Lilly Pulitzer doesn't actually have a sale section on their website. Instead, they host two huge sales each year (one in the fall and one before spring) and marks everything down then instead. That means that this sale is one you don't want to miss.

If you are lucky enough to live near a Lilly Pulitzer store or even a signature store you may have already been able to check out some pieces! If not, don't sweat it because the online sale rarely disappoints. The only thing that can be tricky about shopping online is knowing what size to buy. Over the years I've come to figure out what size to order in Lilly and thought it may be helpful to share some of those insights with y'all. I've broken it down by category so that as you shop it's easy to reference this page since you are unable to make returns on the sale items you purchase during the After Party Sale.

My Normal Sizes:

It could be tricky to read through this post about sizes without knowing a little about my typical sizing. For reference, I am 5'7", usually wear a 27 in jeans or a 2/4 in bottoms, and tend to purchase tops in size small. Most dresses I own are either a small or a 2 depending on the maker.

TOPS

In pretty much all of the Lilly Pulitzer tops I've purchased or tried on I gravitate towards a small. With many of these tops, however, I could size down to an extra small although I tend to like my clothes looser than tighter. In Lilly's classic Elsa top, I prefer a small, but if the top were unavailable in an extra small and I just had to have it, I could also wear a medium.

DRESSES

Most of Lilly's dresses run pretty true to size. In the shift dresses or dresses of that style, I consistently wear a 2. In some of the looser dresses made by the brand (think swing style dresses) I'll occasionally wear a zero. When it comes to dresses sized xxs - xl, I like to try the small on first but will occasionally end up with the dress in an extra small.

ROMPERS

I ordered a romper during the after party sale last year, and it was a huge miss for me. I purchased it in a small and quickly realized that the small was not tall enough for me. This caused the material to look stretched in order to fit my height. Unless the romper is a really structured piece, it is the one article of clothing that I would encourage going up from your normal size when purchasing.

BOTTOMS

I have found that Lilly's bottoms run a little bit on the larger size. When ordering their traditional shorts, skirts, or skorts, a 2 tends to work best for me. When purchasing shorts that have elastic from Lilly, either a small or an extra small works for me. I have found that some of the shorts that are cut on the shorter side to better appeal to a younger crowd run a bit tighter. With those shorts, I'd look into purchasing a small or a four.

SHOES

Admittedly, I don't actually own any shoed from Lilly, but I have tried on a couple of pairs. From the ones I've tried on, I'd say for the most part they run true to size.

I really hoped that this helped you to get pieces that will fit from the sale although if something doesn't work out, you may want to look into selling it on the Re-Lilly facebook page. If you've shopped the sale, I'd love to know what pieces you purchased! Stay tuned tonight as I look forward to updating my top picks on this post.
