Step Into My Week: Homecoming

Although I discussed a lot of how my Homecoming Week looked in this post (aka why I slept in a tent for a week) I thought it would fun to recap the actual weekend for y'all since although Furman likes to make it a week long event most of the excitement comes with the weekend.

To say I kicked off the weekend exhausted was quite the understatement (again, refer to the post linked above). As president of my sorority however, I still had a lot of responsibilities in making sure that all of our homecoming tasks were accomplished and that our members were helping our Homecoming partners build and pomp our float. Each sorority is paired with a fraternity and given a  theme to compete in the homecoming competition. Since the overarching homecoming theme this year was Nickelodeon we were paired with Tau Kappa Epsilon to work with the show Rugrats as our theme. Growing up, Rugrats was one of my favorite shows so it was fun to be able to think back and take ideas from what I remember from my childhood. Sadly I didn't get any pictures of the actual float aside from the one of the TKE president and myself in front of it. We The guys built the float to be Reptar with a Paladin (our school mascot) riding on him with a Terrier (the school we were playings mascot) in his mouth. It was fun to get to know some of those guys and we spent most of Friday night helping to finish our float up. Furman also puts on a big carnival on the mall on Friday night so I walked around that but definitely hit my wall of being around people and was so exhausted that I was thrilled when it was finally time to go to bed after hanging out with the alumni who came back and friends until about 12:30 that night.

My big came to town and stayed with me which was fun since I hadn't seen her in about a month. Saturday, we got up and got ready to go back out to the tailgates before the Homecoming game. It's fun since for Homecoming fraternities and sororities host tailgates when it is typically just the fraternities. We had lunch for our alumnae which provided them with a place to come and reconnect before the game. During the third quarter of the game the winners of the fundraising competition I had been competing in were announced so I had to go on the field and ended up placing second raising over $2,300 in one week.

Saturday afternoon I took a big and much needed nap before the night's activities. Some of our recent KD alums and a few of my friends all went to dinner downtown before going out that night to see a lot of familiar Furman places. We made our rounds that night stopping at a number of cool bars and places in Greenville I hadn't been before and were able to se a lot of graduated friends as well as people I still go to school with. It was a cool dynamic having everyone back but by the time we got back to Furman at one something I was beyond ready to get a bit of sleep.

Sunday morning my big and I went to one of our favorite quick breakfast places, The Swamp Rabbit Cafe, and caught up over coffee before coming back and her getting ready to leave. I went on a bit of a cleaning spree and was able to do a lot of laundry helping me to ease back into the routine of real life before another school week!
