Step Into My Week

Hello! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend full of rest. I don’t know about y’all, but I am kind of excited that it is already February. I usually really dislike February but am trying to make the most of it this year and maybe a positive attitude will help with that.

This week felt long to me. I was certainly glad once Friday afternoon came around even though I’ve started to treat Friday nights like a weeknight. It lets me enter into the weekend a bit more at ease. With class every Monday night from 5:45-8:30 the first day of the week is over in a blink without much down time to attempt to get things accomplished. Our class this semester seems to be a bit more time consuming than the one we took last semester. It is research based, so we are expected to be reading a number of research articles and our textbook to get a better idea of what we are planning to do our paper about. I am hoping that I won’t get too bored with the topic I’ve chosen.

We didn’t have class this past Tuesday (but have it this week) which was a nice break. I don’t even what I did that afternoon and honestly it probably involved attempting to get things done. Wednesday involved another meeting and so did Thursday. It’s funny to me to have friends in other professions who talk about how nice it must be to be finished with the work day at 3:00 and I have to laugh because that is very rarely the case. I’m sure other teachers out there can vouch for that plus all the work that is taken home.

My students this week were a bit of a challenge. If we are looking for excuses we can blame the blood moon. I mentioned last week that they wouldn’t stop talking (and all my teacher friends feel the same) but lately some of them have been super disrespectful. I’ll let you know if I come up with any solutions to that issue as it can be discouraging. Hopefully this will be solved soon and we can go back to making learning fun and not take so much time having to redirect our attention.

Thursday night after the meeting I went to, a bunch of us went to Sophia’s apartment for dinner, margaritas, ice cream, and games. You’d think that we were constantly dealing without power with the number of game nights we have. My family hates playing games so I am glad to have friends that love it as much as I do. Sophia pretty much only likes the game Code Names so we played that. I had never played before and it ended up being super fun. There were six of us playing and it felt like you needed at least that many people to play although I could be wrong on that. It was fun to have plans on a week night to break up the long week some.

Friday was pretty normal aside from conferencing with parents afterwards for a little while. Then it was straight to Starbucks to get some work done. On Thursday, I officially started my “job” doing social media for LBH PR Company. I talked about this a little bit in my January favorites post but figured I would mention it here as well so that you can follow along if you’d like to. I am really thrilled for this opportunity to have worked out and think that it is a step in the right direction of what I’d eventually like to do more of. Later in the spring I’ll explain that better, but for now I’d love to have you following along on Instagram at @lbhprco to see the amazing clients I am able to help promote and grow. I did a bit of work for that job at Starbucks before heading home to put on pajamas and deep clean our apartment. It was in dire need and made me feel like I had my act together a bit more as Saturday approached. Post pajamas and swiffering (can we make that a verb?) I was convinced to go get pizza with Sophia. We went to Toss which I had not been to yet. We split two pizzas and had enough left over to each get a lunch out of it for the next day.

Saturday morning I decided to allow myself a slow start. Although I had been awake I didn’t get out of bed until close to 9:00 before eating breakfast at my desk and then heading off to Due South, a coffee shop in Greenville. That’s where this post was written. I didn’t even ask for the wifi password so that I could solely focus on typing out blog posts. While I know most people would hate working on a Saturday, I kind of love it. I guess it’s true that when you’re doing what you love it doesn’t actually feel like work.

Saturday night some friends and I went to dinner with two girls in our sorority who graduated the year before us. We ended up heading to Sip, a rooftop wine bar, afterwards to spend more time catching up before deciding to go to a dance bar after that. It was such a fun girls night and even better that we were all in bed by 12:00. We ran into a number of Furman people arriving out as we were heading in which made us feel a bit old but was fun nonetheless.

Sunday was filled as most Sundays are, with school work. It's unfortunate that over the weekend is the only real time I have to be a student which means attempting to check off assignments then. I was a little overwhelmed throughout the day (and still am if I'm being honest with myself) but fortunately had fun plans with friends for the Super Bowl. I have very little interest in NFL football but when my friends decided to suggest a potluck dinner while watching it I was all in. I ended up bringing fancy sliders based on a Hello Fresh recipe I had and they were a hit. We had a number of sides and desserts  and all hung out and talked  more than we actually watched the game. I left after half time to get ready for another work week and attempt to go to bed at a decent hour.

Currently…

I’m a few chapters in and am enjoying it so far. The chapters are short which is perfect for me right before bed. I find myself reading a couple and then turning off the light. I am kind of missing a story line though so I may add in another book that is more of a novel soon.

Watching: Good Girls
I sound like a broken record, but I like TV as background noise. I wasn’t in the mood to watch Grey’s Anatomy or anything else when I decided to turn something on on Friday night so I put on Good Girls, an Amazon Prime show. I had high hopes after The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and I think I would’ve liked this more had I actually been paying attention. It’s about journalism which is interesting to me so maybe I’ll start it over and actually pay attention this time.

Loving: Pastels
Now that my no-spend month is over, I’ve been dying to add a couple new pieces I’ve had my eyes on to my closet. Consequently, all of these items are in pastel colors. Pastels are supposed to be big for spring this year and I love that they can be equally suitable for winter as well.

Wearing: This Pajama Set
I adore matching pajamas and this pair is no different. The red hearts are so cute for this month although I know I'll be wearing this for a while to come!

It is all of 40 degrees outside and here I am thinking about bathing suits. Sometimes I have to pause and ask myself why. With a pool at our apartment I was able to spend a decent amount of time by the water this past spring and summer and found myself getting tired of the bathing suits I had. While I definitely prefer the water near my hometown and at the beach, the pool is a lot gentler on swimsuits helping them from not getting so discolored. I’ve always steered clear of lighter colors and white because I don’t want them to look dingy from the bay water but now that I’m not positive I’ll get beach time this summer I’m attempting to justify these two J.Crew suits. This ruffle one is a remake of a style that they had when I was in high school. Although I didn’t get it at the time I searched high and low for a similar one and purchased it and still wear it constantly. The light blue color would look so cute with some bottoms I already have so maybe when the weather warms up I’ll bite the bullet. The other one is this cute white top with a colorful print and adorable tie back. I’m fearful that it may sell out so maybe that will be my next purchase although then I’ll want to plan a trip somewhere warm.
