Step Into My Week + Really Exciting News

Happy Friday! This week has been an eventful and exhausting one so I am very pleased that it is finally the weekend! This was my first full week of student teaching so while the week seemed to go by fast the days didn't necessarily do that. Between teaching most of the day, lesson planning at night, and a 45 minute commute in the morning and afternoon I have a feeling that it is going to take me a little while to get in the full swing of things.

Fortunately, I spent most of last weekend preparing. While that meant that I wasn't all that social I was able to enter into this week with a bit more confidence which was nice. I probably spent 70% of last weekend doing homework so I am trying to lower that percentage this weekend although I'm not convinced that will be the case. One thing that I did do last weekend that was super helpful for this week was make some treats to make waking up in the morning and packing my lunches a bit more exciting. I made delicious egg muffins, chicken lettuce wraps for school, and oatmeal to-go muffins for a snack and all of the recipes were super easy to make which is a definite plus!

A lot of y'all have been asking me to share more looks at what I wear to student teach and while I really don't want my blog to become dedicated to teaching (it is my creative outlet and escape after all...) I thought that those could be fun to share. Six in the morning definitely doesn't offer the best lighting and I feel really silly taking mirror pictures but hopefully this will suffice.  I will have a post up soon featuring some cute teaching appropriate clothing I've found online that is affordable so be sure to stop back by if that is something you're interested in.

Speaking of teaching, I taught math and social studies to my fourth graders all week and it went pretty well. I was most excited for math (I know my dad is laughing at this) since it is the unit I've been planning for the past 2 weeks and the kids really seemed to like the lessons I did and did pretty well on the quiz I gave them today. I had an observation on Monday AND Tuesday which was a little intimidating but both observers had positive things to say which was encouraging.

Below are two pictures from student teaching. Coffee has been pretty essential and colored pens and fun pencils have certainly made my desk a little bit happier. Since I am teaching fractions I've been working really hard to come up with engaging activities for my students. Today I had them do an activity involving this pizza I drew and they were so sad when we didn't have timer more volunteers.

So aside from student teaching, workouts at barre 3, and work my KD family grew on Wednesday night. I am now the great grand big making me feel exceptionally old. This year instead of our traditional big little reveal (see when I got a little here) each family dressed up as a theme. We chose family with my little as the dad, my grand little as the kid, and our newest addition, Sydney, as the baby. We got a few weird dinners at the restaurant we went to dinner at after but it was so much fun!

I saved the best update for last... I got an apartment for next year! On Saturday my friends Ellison, Caroline, and I reserved an apartment near downtown Greenville for us to live in as we start our masters program this summer and into our first year of teaching. Two of our other close friends who are education majors are also planning to live there so I am so glad that as we start life as post grads we will all have each other to be with! While it definitely isn't the most glamorous place it has great amenities, a young community, and is most of all pretty affordable for us as teachers! IT is so nice to already have that all figured out!
