Two Cute Exercise Dresses And Other Activewear Finds

It may be unfair to categorize one summer month as hotter than the others since they are all pretty hot here in Alabama, but I think August may just take the cake. I’m at the point where I feel like I’ve exhausted my summer clothes in my closet (since I’m still getting dressed to go into the office a few times a week) and pretty much want to live in workout clothing since the material is breathable and sweatproof. If I have an outdoor photoshoot for work, you can bet that I will bail on white jeans and opt for some form of activewear instead in an attempt to not overheat outside. Even when that is the case, though, I like to make sure I still look somewhat put together, which is where exercise dresses have come into play and changed the game for me.

I’ve known tennis dresses to be a thing but kind of kept them in the box of being worn exclusively by tennis players and not novices on the court like me. But, once I saw Outdoor Voice’s Exercise Dress, I realized that those dresses I had mentally categorized for one sport could work for any of them. Since athleisure has been a “thing” for years now, most people seem to still want to look somewhat put together even when wearing workout wear and a dress makes that easy since you only have to choose one piece to put on. I’ve had my Outdoor Voices Exercise Dress since the beginning of July and have been reaching for it every time it is clean and out of the laundry. It’s fully lined (although it doesn’t necessarily have a built-in sports bra), and the material is lightweight and dries quickly. It took a couple of tries for me to get my sizing right, and after trying both the extra small and the small, I decided to keep the small for a little bit of added length. The lining of the shorts even has a pocket for you to place your phone, a convenient feature that hints at Outdoor Voice’s attention to detail as a brand. If I were to buy this dress in another color I’d probably opt for the black since I could be in the clear about it showing any sort of sweat (even on the hottest Alabama days) and it would be more versatile season to season, but given my other exercise dress find that may not be necessary.

I know I’m not the only one who relies on Amazon for most purchases, and after discovering Outdoor Voices Exercise Dress and loving it, I took to Amazon to see if I could come across something similar at a more affordable price point. It didn’t take long for me to discover this cute black exercise dress by Amazon’s Core 10 brand. I had tried other activewear pieces from this brand and had a lot of faith that this dress would be an excellent contender to my Outdoor Voices dress. I like that it has a higher neckline but still has a strappy back, and this option even has a built-in sports bra, although it lacks the lining. I usually throw on this pair of shorts under it. Since I am between 5’7” and 5’8” the added length on this one has me more likely to put it on when I have an outdoor photoshoot for work. It even comes in a pretty Ice Blue and Poppy Pink color that would be especially fun this time of year. I stuck to a small in this exercise dress as well.

I know not everyone gravitates to a dress when it comes to working out, and I can’t imagine showing up to True40 in one of these, so I’ve included other cute activewear pieces I’ve seen online below to help y’all power through what remains of the summer heat!
