Step Into My Week 7.1

This morning when I woke up, it felt more like a weekend morning than a Monday. I am fully embracing that knowing that in a matter of a few short days it will be the weekend again given that I have Thursday and Friday off. On Wednesday afternoon, I’ll be heading to the beach and fully plan to spend lots of time floating and reading while soaking up some sunshine.

I can’t decide if I feel like last week went by slowly or quickly and at this point feel like maybe it just went by like normal. Things in the office have been pretty busy, especially now that I work on two separate magazines. My week started on the clumsiest note. When walking into the office on Monday morning, the ground was slick, and I cut up my toe attempting to catch myself from falling on our HR director (while simultaneously holding a fern). Fortunately, I didn’t completely wipe out then, but I did fall down the stairs later that day and was very glad no one was around to witness that especially when I started to laugh, and it echoed in the stair well. I learned the hard way not to wear the shoes I had on in the future when it rains. For the most part, I was able to stay upright the rest of the week. Monday morning was spent responding to emails, comments, and catching up on anything that I may have missed over the weekend. I worked on finalizing resources for an issue and following up with vendors providing products. After lunch, I had a few meetings and was able to get ahead on some assignments with upcoming deadlines until it was time to leave. I headed to the Y to get in a workout before making dinner and watching the bachelorette with friends. After they left, I finished a few blog-related tasks in bed before turning out the lights.

I had a binder at my desk, ready to be read on Tuesday morning when I came in. Those usually take me an hour or two to get through, and this one took about that long. I worked on social copy for the week and sent information to one of our web editors for her to use on our new about the team page. After lunch, I had three different meetings straight until five, which made the afternoon go by very quickly. I had to run to Target on my way home to pick up a couple of things for an upcoming sponsored Instagram and was able to get those photos squared away before going on a walk with Nell. We seem to be alternating weekends when we are actually in town, so it was nice to be able to have some one-on-one time catching each other up on life. After our walk, I ate dinner, showered, and called it a night.

Wednesday was another busy day with resources for another issue needing to be squared away, lots of emails to be sent, and social posts to be scheduled. I like when I have a few more mindless tasks to do on Wednesdays since that tends to be when a lot of the podcasts I like release new episodes. I’ll have to do an updated podcast recommendation post soon, but if you have any favorites, I’d love to hear them. After work, I went to the Y to get in a workout before showering and heading to bible study that night. I got home from that around 9:30 and immediately got in bed to read.

I started my day on Thursday by helping one of our stylists find potential pillow options for a cover shoot we have coming up after the holiday weekend. I had several phone calls throughout the day and also began working on a book review story for a special issue of the magazine. After work, I hurried home to change before going to the Baron’s baseball game with some friends. I never actually end up watching the game and couldn’t tell you the score since I always end up chatting with people, but I do believe that the Barons won. I went home after the game and don’t think I fell asleep until a little after 11, which is late for me on a work night.

Instead of getting up early to work out like I have been most Fridays this month, I opted to sleep in a bit before getting ready and heading to Starbucks. The downside of working out on Friday mornings has been that I haven’t had as much time to sit down and do work at Starbucks like I like. I guess it’ll be a tradeoff. At work, I sent a number of emails and continued to work through resources as I was sent more to be added. After work, I went to the Y since I hadn’t gone that morning. I ate lunch and changed before reading by my friends’ pool until it started to rain that afternoon. I came home to shower and hang out before meeting friends for dinner at Saws. We all changed after that and ended up going out to Moes for a little while that night. I was in bed and asleep by midnight, so it was the perfect amount of time spent socializing.

Saturday morning, I woke up and did some blog work from my bed before changing to meet friends at the pool. We stayed out there for a few hours before showering and heading to lunch. In the afternoon, I made Elisabeth and Butter’s Salted Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookies, which have been a dangerous thing to have in our house. It was supposed to be rainy that evening, so I decided to hunker down on the couch with my laptop and some movies in an attempt to relax and get ahead on blog posts before a fun but busy July. I can’t even remember what all I watched, but it was nice to have a very relaxed night at home. I even think I was asleep before 11.

I woke up around 8:00 on Sunday and hung out for a bit before getting out of bed to make coffee and get my day going. I got dressed and ready and went to Starbucks to write some posts before meeting my roommate at church. After that, I went to Trader Joe’s to get a few things to have on hand for the week. It had been thundering most of that time but didn’t seem like it was going to rain, so I went for the hottest (and dumbest) midday run. Once I got back home, I put away laundry, talked on the phone, and eventually showered. I chatted with my parents on the phone after that and then got ready to meet a friend for dinner at Five, a restaurant here in Birmingham. That lasted until a little after 8, and once I got home, I quickly took off my makeup, put on pajamas, and got in bed.

I hope that y’all had a nice week and weekend as well!
