Step Into My Week

Happy Monday. Next Monday is going to be a bit of a challenge since at this point I am so used to having Mondays off (I haven't worked a single Monday since December if that tells you anything). This post is coming to y'all a bit late since I enjoyed my long weekend with my mom in town! She left a little while ago so I am back to watching How To Get Away With Murder while eating oatmeal and drinking coffee on the couch waiting for someone to come and cut open my bathroom ceiling because there is a leak in the apartment above mine... Let's start at the beginning of the week though.

Monday we were off of school due to ice and woke up questioning that call considering there wasn't any ice. It was nice to have another day to regroup but unfortunately grad school started back that night so it didn't feel like a full day off. Class finished early which was appreciated especially since the National Championship Game came on at 8:00. While the first half was a bit painful to watch I'm so glad Alabama got their act together. I finally went to bed around 1:00 which made for a very long Tuesday at school. Overall, school was pretty good this week other than staying pretty late each day. On Wednesday I had a really exciting phone call that I can't wait to share more about with y'all soon.

I forgot to take outfit pictures from teaching this week but will do my best to make it a priority this week. Pretty much all of the pictures below are from this weekend with my mom. She got in town on Friday around 4:00 and came straight to my school to see my classroom. My parents haven't been to Greenville since Graduation in May (since I prefer to go home) so I was excited for her to finally see the space where I spend most of my time during the week. It was pretty rainy all day Friday and she left early to tackle the 8 hour drive so we went to an earlyish dinner at Cantina 76 after she saw our "finished" apartment and got settled here. After dinner we came back and started to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel while deciding how we wanted to spend our Saturday.

I put finished in quotes above because despite being in our apartment since late April we still haven't fully furnished/decorated it. Each of our bedrooms is finished but our living room is not and our dining area has become more of a storage location than anything. I had mentioned wanting to get a chair that matches the sofa I already had from Ikea so we decided to head to Charlotte on Saturday to tackle that task and explore someplace new. I have been to Charlotte a number of times since being in Greenville but don't know a ton about the area.

Charlotte is only about an hour and forty-five minutes from Greenville which made for an easy day trip. We went to Ikea first where we got the chair and a few other odds and ends before deciding where to head next. We ended up going to the Park Road shopping center and getting lunch at Amelie's, an eclectic French cafe. My big, Caroline, had taken me to another location of this restaurant so I knew it would be a good place to grab a bite to eat before doing a bit more exploring.

From that shopping center we went to another area and popped into a few stores. My favorite was Paper Twist, a cute stationery store. I want a wall of wrapping paper like theres and easily could have spent a pay check on their pretty paper goods. We also went into Reid's fine foods where we grabbed a take and bake baked ziti to make for dinner once we got back. It was delicious and left us with enough leftovers for me to be able to take it to school as lunch for the next few days. We watched a few more episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel before turning in for the night.

Sunday we decided to try out a restaurant that I had never been to but have wanted to try called Stella's. I've heard great things so we went for brunch and were very impressed. The restaurant itself is adorable and the food stands out as well. We each started with mimosas and I ordered french toast while my mom had the shrimp and grits, both of which were delicious. I'm eager to go back again soon since I've heard their coffee and pastries are very tasty. I had some work to do on Sunday afternoon so we came back to my apartment so I could finish that before exploring some shops in Greenville.

It's currently restaurant week in Greenville so we checked out some of the specials being offered at different recipes and ultimately decided to get dinner at Hall's Chophouse. I hadn't been since graduation and it is easily one of the best restaurants in Greenville. We had the best meal and came home with a box of leftovers that I look forward to eating today. My mom left this morning to head back so I'll be spending today attempting to prepare for the week ahead.

I am so thrilled that y'all are loving the newest addition to Step Into My Week posts! I am renaming the section from "currently" to "lately" since that makes a bit more sense, but the idea remains the same. I'd still love for y'all to let me know what you've been up to lately as well!

Lately:

reading:  The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes.
While I've been doing my best to read more this year at night it's sometimes hard to get through more than about half of a chapter. Because of that, I'm still working my way through this book and loving it. I have a number of books on my shelf to start once I've finished it which is exciting, but I'm not quite ready for this one to be over yet.

With it being so cold in Greenville my mom and I came back each night wanting to put on pajamas and watch something good. I had heard from a number of friends about how great this show was so we decided to give it a try. There is a reason the show won two Golden Globes. While it was quirky it was so fun to watch. Both my mother and I loved it and were sad that there were only 8 episodes. I'm not sure when season two will be coming out but I am hoping it's soon and that it will have more than 8 episodes.

My skin gets SO dry in the winter. I adore Beautycounter's Countermatch lotion so when I saw this thick sleeping cream I knew I needed to give it a try. While it's expensive, it's worth the investment since this product works and is free of the dangerous chemicals that are in so many other beauty products due to a lack of regulation in the beauty industry. I will be talking more about Beautycounter and why I'm making the switch in posts soon but if you have any questions in the meantime please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm pretty positive I've worn this sweater/sweatshirt four times in the past week, and I'm not even gong to apologize about it. One of my friends just ordered it to and she hasn't wanted to take it off either. Once it goes on sale I'm going to have to look into getting it in another color since I never want to take it off.

wanting: Everything from Tuckernuck's Winter Sale
If you saw my post from Saturday then you already know that Tuckernuck is currently hosting a HUGE winter sale.
