Step Into My Week

Long time no talk. I had no intention of taking a blogging break, but it happened. Once winter break hit I must've had that mentality in all realms, not just teaching. While I didn't mean to step away from the computer for so long it ended up making me even more excited to jump back in to finish out 2017 on a positive note and prepare for 2018. The end of the year is typically a refreshingly slower paced time and I am excited to use this time in order to look back on blogging this past year (I love looking at the analytics behind everything but tend to lack time).

As for Stepping Into My Week over the past week and a half (oops considering it is Wednesday) I suppose I'll start where I left off last. Last week we had full days on Monday and Tuesday and then a half day on Wednesday. After Monday it really didn't seem like much learning was happening although I definitely tried. Add in a Christmas party and holy cow were we all ready for a bit of a break. Fortunately, the Christmas party took place in the afternoon, and when the sugar high hit the kids were heading out the door to go home. I was feeling under the weather starting on Monday with a cold of some sort so packing up to head home sounded like the best medicine. I didn't take any pictures of what I wore during that short week since we had themed days and it was survival mode.

After our half day on Wednesday I had scheduled myself a haircut before going back and finishing packing. I knew I needed to get one and having that to look forward to at the end of a busy (short) week was wonderful. I tried a new place in Greenville called The Beautiful Co. and I didn't want to leave. I got a little bit of length chopped off and decided to get some layers which I've liked so far. The real kicker was how beautiful the salon was. They offered me multiple cups of coffee, massaged my head for a solid 5 minutes, and were so friendly. I wanted to move right into the lobby. Once the relaxation was finished I picked up one last Christmas gift from We Took To The Woods and then it was off to pack and clean our apartment to prepare to head home the next morning.

Just like over Thanksgiving, I woke up super early on Thursday morning and was on the road by 5:15. It helped to have packed up my car the night before but this trip I was definitely more tired. I hit some traffic outside of Atlanta, but I still made it home before lunch time. My brother (who I hadn't seen since Graduation) and I grabbed lunch before I took a much needed nap. Ever since getting home I've really felt like I've been on vacation. From taking a four day break from my laptop, to getting adequate sleep, reading for fun, and not feeling rushed it has been pretty awesome. Friday night, Nell and I exchanged Christmas presents at her house and caught up with one another in person before I left the next morning for my grandparents house.

We left for my grandparents house around 9:00 on Saturday and from then on it was food and family festivities. All of my family on my mom's side was at my grandparent's house so few dull moments were had. While we were there I read In A Dark, Dark Wood and would definitely recommend it. It is by the author of The Woman in Cabin 10 which I read this summer and also loved. On Christmas Eve we went to church in the morning and then went to my Aunt's house that night. We had a delicious dinner and equally as great desserts before heading back to my grandparent's so that I could organize everyone's gifts. In years past I've shared what I gave and received and the plan is that that will be live on the blog tomorrow!

The day after Christmas, also known as my birthday (woo 23), we came back from my grandparent's house and got a puppy! I've been begging my parents for the past 3 years to get a dog and this year it paid off. They got a mini schnoodle that we named Scout. She is so cute and tiny and is the main reason this blog post is going up so late. And as if a puppy on your birthday isn't enough, one of my best friends also got engaged on the 26th! A-ok with big life events overshadowing turning another year older since I much prefer to celebrate others than my own birthday. While leaving Scout will be hard it will be exciting to go back to Greenville to celebrate that milestone with Sophia!

While I know that I am leaving details out (a bit out of practice you may say) I am eager to start taking a look at last year on the blog in order to prepare more content for you this year! Thanks for sticking around with me. It is so crazy that at the beginning of this month marked 7 years of blogging!
