Back to School Basics: Lunch Time

School, for me, starts today. Where did summer go? My schools first day is always a half day. You go to each class for 15 or 20 minutes and they tell you what materials will be needed for their class. After you've finished rotating through your schedule, the entire school (Pre K-12th) meets in our student activity center for an ice cream social. After that everyone goes out to lunch with their friends and then we all go to Staples to pick up all of our school supplies. Thankfully, I love organizing school supplies so you will see that post up here in a few days and I'm letting you know ahead of time that it will probably be very detailed. After tomorrow though, lunch won't be as easy as ordering off a menu at your restaurant of choice. Instead, I will be packing my lunch box!

lunch time
I have a few different lunch boxes that I rotate through but for me, it is not the outside that matters but instead the contents. I try to add variety to my lunch but with 36 weeks of school there is no doubt that some snacks will be ever present. I always throw in more snacks than I need because I always eat a little something before cross country and it is better to be safe than sorry. For my "main course" I bring anything from yogurt and granola, bagels with peanut butter, or left overs from the night before. As long as it is substantial then your main course can be just about anything! I also almost always have a granola bar (cascading farms chocolate chip are my favorite) and a package of peanut butter crackers with me at all times. For something sweeter I like welches fruit snacks as a little treat! Another great dessert type item is nutella! Nutella in my lunch box can be found with graham crackers, pretzels, or pretzels filled with peanut butter (I really like peanut butter). If none of those snacks seem appealing to me at the time, I can be found eating dry roasted almonds, cashews, or pistachios! Another must have for lunch time is water! I would be lost with out my camelbak water bottle and cross country practice would be a nightmare!

What are your lunch time must haves? I would love to find some new favorites!
