Things I've Learned My Freshman Year Of College | What Happened In High School Stays In High School

Today starts the first day of my "Things I've Learned My Freshman Year Of College" series! I will be posting these for the next few Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Coming into college this is one of the things I struggled most with! One of the things I struggled most with was being new and having no one know anything about me! No one knew how much I loved soccer or how I participated in many clubs that meant a lot to me in high school. While your extensive resume may get you into college it doesn't exactly follow you and your friends will have no idea what you did unless you bring it up. While that was a negative to me for some people that could be a huge positive, a chance to rebuild a name for yourself.

Fortunately for me many of my friendships from high school have remained showing that not everything from high school is forgotten. Here at Furman it has been so fun to meet so many new, great people and I feel like I have become less shy during my time in college which is great!

I high school I was proud of all I had accomplished and I wasn't really ready to redefine myself and forget all of the hard work I put into things. Honestly, everyone here is in the same boat, we all were overly involved, athletic, and more than anything academic! Lately, I have applied to join a few organizations on campus that I am really excited about even if I don't get them. By leaving behind so much of what happened in high school I have already been able to gain so much!

Bye Bye High School!

  3. I am in the same position! I came to college without knowing a single person, but I have met so many amazing friends! I was terrified at first, but I'm so happy to be where I am.

  4. Love this! As a college sophomore I can definitely say that redefining myself has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I got more involved this year and I can tell you that it really does make a difference. Good for you!
